Default Bumping Limits

I knowon other sites we are limited to one bump per day, oes that apply here as well? I ask because some people on these boards do numerous "Bump" type threads per day.

I think maybe it's 1 morning one night here, but not positive.
Obviously it's hard to police something like that, but I agree that excessive bumping is a problem with a few members.

I seen one of the mods say there is no rule but that 1 bump per day is the norm. Something like that lol.

A lot of times it just gets way out of hand. You'll have someone selling something bump four times a day with, "Still here," or "Going to ebay this afternoon," "Going to e-bay in 2 hours," etc...

It really depends on the situation. If the forum is moving quickly and your thread gets bumped off within a few hours, it's fine to bump yours back to the top obviously. It's all about product placement, if your product is on top then your stuff gets sold/traded fast. No bigs man, no bigs.

I understand, but then you have threads that are nothing but bumps. Everyone throwing in bumps every few hours just to make sure theirs is on top.

bf, i agree that it can be annoying, but here's my thoughts on the matter:

we already have a pretty tight rule set in the trading forum, and for the time being, i'm against adding more (i have to rework that last one we put in, it needs a little tweak, to be honest). does bumping get annoying? yeah, if done excessively, but everyone's definition of excessive will vary greatly. over-bumping is far less annoying than the multiple threads mainpage, which we've fought to the point that most members remember it now (yay!), and is far less detrimental to the other users.

i'm always thinking of ways to improve the trading section, as is the other mod in the trading area, iggytx. i'm not dismissive of this 100%, i just feel at the moment there are bigger fish to fry in that particular section.

(and, big big ups to all our site traders who've been following the rule set to a T. i'm seeing so much less 2 threads/mainpage, ebay threads, and the ilk, it's awesome!)

I understand that, and for the mot part you're right. Multiple threads in one forum is bad but so is this. I, for one, don't bump 5 times a day but when other people do, my listing gets thrown way back. It ends up becoming just as bad as someone having multiple threads in one forum.

A simple rule like, "Two bumps per day," or "Morning and Evening Bump."

Need some help though? I will gladly offer up my services to be a moderator of the Buy/Sell/Trade forums. I have wanted to do this for a while and I know I can help in a big way.

It could be fair to ask that members only bump once in the morning and once in the evening. If a couple people bump aggressively, then they'll send a couple others off the front page who will, in turn, begin to bump more aggressively and so on

I agree, then you have a bumping war which I've seen.

It is hard though when your ad gets bumped off the 1st page in a matter of hours. But I agree, excessive bumping can get annoying even though I might have been mildly at fault too with my recent sale thread, I did have 1 day where I bumped in the morning and once at night. I don't want to do it, but I also know as others have said, that if my thread is on page 2, I will not likely sell anything.

And that's totally understandable, you want to sell your items. But then you have people trying to bump all the time (like my example above) and the Sell board become this useless board full of people trying to outbump one another just to be first on the list.

Again, I totally understand people trying to get rid of their items but be considerate to those of us who only bump once or twice a day trying to keep things fair for everyone.

Thats why I say a rule should be in place to limit Bumping-TYPE threads to two per day.

Suggestion: Instead of putting a rule into place that limits bumping why not just say

"If we feel you are abusing your right to "bump" your thread, we will place a limit of two "bumps" per-day on you. This limit will be in place for ("x" amount of days). After-which you will be allowed to resume regular posting. If you start abusing it again you will receive a permanent two "bumps" a day limit.

Lilke I said a suggestion
