Hey, anyone up for a high-def movie challenge?

The way these work is... you watch lot of movies, list them in a special "lists only thread" with whatever details you want... and the poster with the most movies watched wins. Wins what? Fame and glory... and maybe some donated prizes.

Usually these go on for a long time, but I think a couple of weeks is all that is necessary. I'm thinking Jan 2 - Jan 17.

Rules are simple --
1. Need to be viewed off a Blu-ray or HD DVD
2. Needs to a be a movie, 60+ minutes long. (Normally I would say shorter as there are many classic movies out there shorter, but not on these formats yet.)
3. When it doubt, you get 5 wildcards to use.

No TV shows, no mini-series.

It's all about fun, all honor system in terms of what you watch...

Any takers?

The steelbook of UP is absolutely gorgeous, wow...and just watched UP (very very funnyy movie) but id say Wall E is the better movie overall but UP is funny unlike Wall E and is much more rewatchable for me.

These two arent really related the way all my polls usually have some link or common theme...etc But, they are both new to Blu-ray, and they are both horror movies. I was surprised that I enjoyed each of them!

The funny thing is, I think ORPHAN was a better movie, but DRAG ME TO HELL has better REPLAY VALUE... so I dont know how to vote.

Which do you prefer if you could only buy one?

Hello i am new to these forums but not this site i love it so much. But getting to the issue at hand i am a supporter of amazon.com and i love ordering from there i have spent hundred of dollars on different items i am even a prime member. The other day i ordered the 12.99 Starship Troopers Blu-ray used my 2 day air prime membership to get it here i got the disc yesterday everything looked good when i opened the box nothing looked wrong. i proceeded to look at the disc and at the bottom where the security label was it look liked it had been cut open with a razor blade but i didn't really throw an red flags up. Then i noticed the disc was just freely moving around inside so i decided to open the plastic so i could try to save my brand new bluray from having some scuff marks on it as soon as i opened the package i saw the art work on the disc and it looked terrible i was thinking to myself this can't be that cheap i proceeded to look at the bottom of the disc and it was clear i was like this isn't right so i proceeded to put it in my computer and turns out it was a blank disc someone scammed amazon.com and me. i called customer service i talked to this guy in India and made him aware of what was going on. This is the best part and why i love amazon.com so much he refunded me the 12.99 and gave me free overnight shipping on a new disc. The disc i ordered came from KY this new one is coming from DE. I have never had this happen to me before and i love their service they made it right and i am one happy customer...

Well they will not let me post a image of the fraud i got but just be aware of things when you get a package in the mail!

A Million BD Subscribers for Netflix; Disc Rentals Expected for 20+ More Years

From Blu-ray.com:

Based on data given by Netflix during yesterday's Q3 2009 earnings call, it follows that the rental company is approaching or has passed a million Blu-ray subscribers, in what is twofold growth in less than a year, despite having increased subscription rates for BD twice, in October 2008 and April 2009.

The company didn't give a hard figure for Blu-ray subscribers, but it did say that it had 11.1 million total subscribers as of September 30, and in answer to one of the analysts, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings informed that the percentage of users that are on Blu-ray subscription had "stayed pretty steady for us just under 10%." Simple arithmetic tells us that the number of Blu-ray subscribers must then be very close to a million, give or take a few thousand.

In December 2008, Netflix announced it had hit 500,000 Blu-ray subscribers. By the end of the year, Netflix had 700,000 Blu-ray subscribers (out of 9.4 million total subscribers).

While articles on the demise of discs are published every day, Hastings said he was "struck" by the fact that they expected Netflix's postal expense to be approximately $600 million and growing, as disc shipments increase with no flattening in sight - in 2011 postal expense is expected to be over $700 million.

Netflix has just spent $40 million for rental return machines that can accept the returning DVDs, open them, clean them, inspect them, and prepare them for reshipment. These machines will be installed over the next 18 months, with a view to saving money and improving service quality. Hastings said that this investment makes financial sense "because our DVD shipment volume is still growing and we expect to be renting DVDs until 2030."
