Default Specs for Samsung dual player

Does anyone have a link that shows the official specs for the Samsung dual player that's coming out later this year? Or have they even released the specs yet?

Nothing has really been released yet about the player. What has been mentioned is that it will be both iHD and BD-J 1.1 compliant and will have all the built in decoding for the new audio codecs. What else was mentioned was that it would have the 1080 @ 24p output for BD only. This all was stated in a French article and said it would be released in July which we know is wrong because the Samsung press release said it would be released towards the end of this year. So I dont know how acurate this article really was. The article also said that it would not contain an Reon HQV video processor for DVD upconversion.

What's with all of the dual formats giving HD DVD the sh*t end of the deal?

The question is will it still be supporting 1080 60p on the HD DVD side, or are we going to be stuck with 1080i?

Everything is stating its 1080p @ 60 output for HD-DVD. But I am sure they will offer a firmware update for the 24p. If the machine can do it for Blu-ray, I am sure it can handle the HD later on if not right away.

Just saw on Heise.de that Samsung delivers their BDP-UP 5000 in October or November to the German Market.

Price seems to be €400 higher than your average BR-Player.

Only a couple links out on the web about this at the moment.

But it's still nice to see some kind of announcement.
I believe Samsung is holding their "Samsung 2007 Holiday in July Product Showcase" on July 11 and 12 in New York City. More details will most likely come out then.

I prefer Warner's TotalHD solution more than this, but more choice is always good and it will allow people to buy into HD with a lower level of risk.

Hopefully these players will drop in price fairly quickly.

This is great news for anybody who just HAS to have Pirates and the Matrix, but only has room for one input on the back of their TV, and doesn't want to have to buy a "signal switcher". Personally, I would prefer one player that can "do it all". Less wires to worry about. Less remotes laying around, and less buttons to push.
I sure hope it's reasonalbly priced. I am guessing on $900+.
But if it's successfull, it should drop it's price in time.
Personally I'm just happy to hear something about it. I was somewhat convinced that Samsung had given up on this project.

I will definitely consider this player to replace my current ones (HD-A1 and PS3). especially once the prices go down. Though I am also interested in seeing what Onkyo comes out with since historically I have been an Onkyo fan.

And who knows what else might end up getting announced.

I'm loving my new A2 just fine. I'll wait until next year for an upgrade.

I think these dual players are just to make people go blu.

As long as the reviews are solid, I'm all over this.

...once the price drops a bit.

The dual players can also be used for Blu-Boys to go HD-DVD. It's a 2 way street.
Keep in mind, the number of Blu-boys that are only on that side, because they like Video games, and the their system of choice just happens to have a blu-ray player in it. I bet A LOT of them never would have even picked one up, had they known there would be such slim pickin's for games.
Personally, I would love to add this to my system (if affordable). Then I can just hook my 360 add-on up to my PC. And I can go buy whatever friggin' movies I want.
I do envy Blu-Ray for their future addition of the pixar library.
The problem I have is, I have NO interest in a PS3.

Phillip Swan posted this article on his web site today, for what it's worth. But if true the price doesn't sound too out of line, as a brand new product to market.

Samsung to Launch Dual-Format HDTV Player
The set-top will play both Blu-ray and HD DVD discs.
By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (July 5, 2007) -- Samsung yesterday announced that it will launch a dual format High-Definition player in late fall.

The company hopes that the set-top, which will play both Blu-ray discs and HD DVDs, will appeal to consumers confused about which format to choose in the high-def war.

Samsung's player (model: BDP-UP5000) will be the second on the market, following LG's dual-format player which was introduced earlier this year.

But unlike LG's player, which carries a whopping $1199 price tag, Samsung said its player would cost less than $600, according to the web site AfterDawn.com.

That's roughly $50-$100 more than a standalone Sony Blu-ray player ($499), which is the cheapest Blu-ray set-top on the market. Toshiba's entry-level HD DVD player now costs $299.

At less than $600, Samsung believes its player could find a niche, although it's likely that standalone Blu-ray and HD DVD player prices will fall further in the coming months.

Samsung said the dual-format player would support all the features available on both Blu-ray and HD DVD, including Net-based material accessed via an Ethernet connection.

I will wait for the Secrets review but 600 bucks is not bad if it is a good player. The only people that are really upset about this are Bluboys because most of them want BD to win outright, Sorry that aint going to happen.IMO...
