Yeah...May 6th is asking a little too much for Samsung to be ready with the long over due firmware upgrade.

Someone spoke to a tier 2 tech today who mentioned this update only effing provides 1.1 compatibility and not the HD audio update. Also, there's corroborative evidence that Samsung never considered TrueHD 2.0 output a "problem" and are only providing a fix due to all the complaints. After hearing this plus the pricing for the new Panasonic, I wouldn't give an eff if the BDA and Blu-ray all come tumbling down.

Yes: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=955388

Picture is excellent, plays most everything thrown at it. It simply needs a firmware update for the chipset in its current form.

Its suppose to be the same chip as whats inside the second gen LG and it has the firmware for the codecs in 7.1. However, there are still a few problems so maybe samsung is working out the details before officially releasing...

Whats more important?? Getting a half-assed patch out that ruins more things than it fixes, or waiting a bit longer for them to get it right? I agree that we've waited long enough, but a little while longer wont kill us.

I surely do hope this is about making sure the firmware is top quality. But when I talk with Samsung support - or read about other folks reporting on their conversations with Samsung support - they seem to have more excuses than solutions. Issues that we consider major problems - they consider OK as is - this is pretty scary! I am not a BD-UP5000 owner - just a potential customer trying to work up the confidence that Samsung will make sure it works correctly going forward - because it surely does not now!

Since my current receiver does not support the higher audio codecs I am not worried there.. but.. It seems that I miss-read/understood the 'BluRay' platform that this set-top was at and ordered {not received yet.. projected install date is 05/14/08} thinking it was at 1.1 .. when what I was reading was about firmware version not platform version.... So what I want is of course better International and faster loading times for HD-DVD supported, debug the BluRay menu troubles, faster new release bug support and also support at least BluRay platform 1.1 {really surprise us with 2.x}

what a jack off,

FYI: Click here to see the latest FW updates for the player. It was recommended to me from somebody on a different site and I go and check to see when a new one is out. I don't download it from that site as I just plug in my player using an ethernet cable.

I'm starting to get worried. It seems like maybe Samsung has been focusing on their 1500 player instead of fixing the problems with their old players. It is now May 19th and I personally haven't heard a WORD on the firmware that I have been waiting almost 5 months for. I'm not happy
