Default Samsung BDUP5000 Clearance at Best Buy!

I have posted the videogame & movie ads for the week of 4/26/08 over at my blog. The BDUP5000 is on clearance at $499. This must mean that this thing is on its way out from retail.

This unit was similarly priced a few weeks ago...so it could represent another sale also. That said, Crutchfield claims discontinuation. Only one thing I'm curious about, where are you seeing the BD-UP5000 in those ads?

Actually I don't have a scan of it, but it is page 11 of the new best buy ad for tomorrow. I will try to grab a scan tonight.

Yeah, I noticed it on page 11 when browsing the Weekly Ad online this morning. What caught my attention was that is was labeled "SAMSUNG 1080p Blu-ray Disc™ and Upconvert DVD Player, was $599, now $499, Clearance". I was thinking "$499 clearance for a Samsung BD player?" It's not until you click "View Full Details" that they admit it's the Blu-ray Disc/HD DVD Universal Player, Model: BD-UP5000, and can actually play HD DVDs in addition to BD & unconvert DVDs.

It's like HD DVD is already the format that dares not speaks it's name.

Yea I bought a Samsung BD-UP5000 a couple weeks ago at Best Buy for $499.99. Great machine and I'm glad I got one before they are all gone and become an ancient relic of sorts.

Bought one yesterday at Circuit City -- brand new, $349 on clearance. The website says $449, so I have no clue why the one I found was $100 less, but I grabbed the only one of the shelf and ran to checkout. So far, so good, seems like a solid player. Now I need to go about rebuilding my HD-DVD collection.

^MSRP = $1000 in December 2007. It's all relative.

Didn't he say he got it for $349? That's a great price.

Yeah, it's $499 online, but for some reason, the store I went to had it for $349 on clearance. For a profile 1.1 dual-format player, $349 is a steal. It looks and feels like a $1000 component though

I bought a floor model for $270($300 and they gave me a 10% discount). It's the same thing for the BD-30 as well I think, for those who already want 1.1 loaded on their player.
