Default PowerDVD no longer cross-format

PowerDVD was updated to version 8 recently but they have dropped HD DVD support. There is no comparsion between 7.3 Ultra and 8 Ultra where this lack of support would be apparent. http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/produ...are_1_ENU.html

Sounds like they are recommending users use both 7.3 ultra and 8 ultra for HD DVD and the latest Blu-ray playback capabilities.

I'm not too crazy about using two different versions of software, I want only one. Looks like their competitor WinDVD is the answer.

Default What a dumb move...

With millions of HD DVDs in the wild they decide to do this. WinDVD should send them a basket and thank you letter for their support. This is easy money in the bank for WinDVD. WinDVD it is for me.

WinDVD + LG Combo drive = HTPC Heaven!

**Edit** I dont have the combo drive yet, testing the rig / setup with the HD DVD Add-on first.

New hack to re-enable HD DVD playback in PowerDVD 8. It is really sad it has to come to this!

I'm thankful for the hack, but I'm still hard pressed to give PowerDVD any of my money. WinDVD did not sucker punch HD DVD owners/buyers. My money still goes to them.

Agreed! I have already upgraded to WinDVD version 9 (have it installed but havent tried it yet) but have also put in complaints with Cyberlink. They confirmed there will be no HD DVD plug-in. (which isnt a surprise!) Perhaps they will listen to their customers and re-think their position, but I suspect they won't. Now they can have fun with their legal department shutting down all the sites that host the patch etc.

LMAO! A classic example of pay now or pay later! Pay later almost always ends up costing more! They shoulda just continued the HD DVD support!
