Where did you read that it only said that it fixed some playback issues?

Well, the Sunshine bug is fixed. Sunshine originally worked fine in my player until I update the firmware to the 1.0 on their site. Now, with the new firmware, sunshine works fine. I didn't have any other playback issues...so...I guess to get Sunshine working again, it was worth it. What else supposedly didnt work with the 5000?

Holy crap....sound issues up the ass. Sunshine played, but the audio went out...and when I stopped the movie and restarted, no sound. I put in another movie, no sound. I had to completely shut down the player to get sound back. I am quickly losing faith in Samsung altogether....

just and FYI, I have seen multiple reports of the 1.1 "killing" the Ethernet port. Rolling back to 1.0 fixes this, but of course you loose the"fixes".

....what fixes. My GOD. If it wasn't for the HD-DVD bargains I'm finding, this player would now go on ebay.

Is the player now capable of streaming DTS-HD MA or TrueHD (5.1) over HDMI?

Nope...

Though if you have a HDMI1.3 A/V then why wouldn't it work?

Because it can't internally decode OR bitstream the codecs and until it can, it doesn't matter what receiver you have.

So far I havent had any issues with this player (besides the "global" ones) I am going to test Sunshine this weekend again. If you can use the DD+ track and see if that works. For some reason the DTS HD track is not cooperating and messes with this player at about the 12 minute mark.

I dont have it connected to the internet so I dont miss that feature. I have heard that some of the other problem discs are reported as "fixed" though.

I am seriously considering picking up the bd-up5000 but I just dont know if it is a good time to get it as there are so many bugs and that if we could really depend on samsung to finally release the firmware that fixes all the glitches. Any thoughts? Advice?

I don't think we'll see a player that is totally glitch free for at least a year. Once Blu-ray becomes more "standard" I think the players will be come more reliable. Until then the CE companies are playing constant catch up with the software. While this player does have some issues with current titles, they ARE being worked on. I dont think Ive seen a glitch free player yet (outside of the PS3), most players have needed a firmware update(s) to get where they are today and will continue to need firmware updates to stay glitch free. As we all know there is always going to be a small percentage of players that are just faulty. The biggest problem is that on the net and in forums like this the largest percentage of people talking are those with issues. People who are not having issues don't really have a need to communicate. So take the experiences with grain of salt as on any forum you are only seeing a VERY small portion of the actual owners.
