Default Samsung BD-UP5000 Disc Problems\Fixes

All,

This thread will be for problems that people are having with discs on the Samsung BD-UP5000 . As this thread gets bigger I ask that you search before you ask as your problem may be known or has been asked before. This way we can cut down repeat problems that there may be a fix or temporary solution for. What I ask is that we follow a format when reporting a problem so that others can test this out, if there is a repeated problem that can be verified then it would go into this thread. As issues get fixed\found I will update the list.

Here is a link to a list of problem discs which is being maintained by Vinnie97:

First time owner.

Picked up Kingdom of Heaven works flawlessly. Also picked up Across the Universe... and it just doesn't play. The menu pops up but the "not available" icon appears for any type of function.

I am currently downloading the update for the player. So hopefully this will correct it. Otherwise my gf will be upset. Since it's her first Blu Ray disc and she's a beatlemaniac.

Update fixed problem.

Sorry didnt see this until now, THis is a "known" issue which is fixed with the 1.0 update. If you want to lay this title or 3:10 Yuma you MUST update to the 1.0 firmware.

BEOWULF does not play on my 5000. It freezes during the Loading process. I had to power down the player to eject the disc try. Any one else have this issue? Is there yet another firmware upgrade needed? God help us.

Make sure its hooked up to the web, after that it should work. AVS has the same problem. But worked after it was online.

I just got this, and thought that as well,
but, on my second try I just waited it out and in played fine
it took about twice as long to load if not longer and with no web hook up

Thanks Dak. I'll let it have a longer load time.

ok....

Using the most current firmware with no internet connection (unit is in a roll around rack for portable backyard viewing)

Beawulf had hang ups during load.... finally got it to play....

Fantastic Four / Silver Surfer HD froze up about 5 minutes in... switch to a different chapter and the unit would freeze once getting to the chapter....

Super Bad BD would load up into the extras menu, could not get the film to play....

Blades of Glory HD froze at the 95% mark... was able to get past that point in fast forward, film finshed fine...

Justice League BD played just fine...

Looks good . Hopefully we can get some people with the updated firmware to verify:
06) Star Trek TOS (HD DVD) : 5 episodes don't play, locks up unit, power needs to be unplugged

07) Babysitters (XXX title / HD DVD) : doesn't play at all, locks up after warnings

04) The Kingdom (HD DVD) : IME (U-control) features not working properly (I am still looking for the exact issue to test it out myself)

03) Resident Evil - Extinction (BR) : Blu-wizard feature not working

As far as Beowulf goes I dont think we will see an improvement on the disc loading time. I think this is the disk and not the player (although I cant confirm this). This seems to be related to the web enabled features though. I did find that the place where the "pause" happens is chapter 0/2, it then skip ti 1/2 and quickly jumps to the menu.

I havent had a chance to watch any SD DVDs to verify if I can hear the drop outs though. I am so backed up with my HD discs probably going to be awhile until I can test it out.

The BIGGEST thing I think that needs to be emphasized is that these report additions need to be able to be verified by other users. If Samsung cant duplicate it its going to be hard form them to fix it. also, the more detail the better (chapter\Firmware\settings..ect). This way when others test out the reported issue we can easily verify the problem.

It would be nice to know how they test out reported problems though. This way we could be more specific when we report issues. It is important to mention that if you do have an error then please call Samsung while saying its a problem on the forums is nice, calling Samsung is the way to get them to fix it. When you call report the other verifiable issues as well. The more people that call on an issue the quicker it will be fixed.

Good points...I will say that after Beowulf initially seemed to fail to load on the 5000 (just a case of me not waiting long enough), I tried it in the 360 add-on and loading time was similar to what it would be for any other HD disc on the device.

Also, your last point goes without saying. As of earlier this week, Samung tech level 2 insinuated I was the only one complaining about the Sunshine glitches and that I should send in my player for repair.

Somehow I doubt that, since this movie went from not playable (well playable playing both PiP and Movie at the same time) to now we can get it to play. I have a few things to test out, but hopefully I am going to get into some of the newer Blu-ray\HD DVD discs this weekend.

I have tried Beowulf, but the only thing I could verify is the load time bug, and even that wasnt horribly bad (IMO). I never experienced the audio dropouts that have been reported. (analog, Bitstream(Audiophile). I was listening for them too. They might have happened in a "dead" scene, but I listened twice to the "speech scene" early on and did not notice anything.

Wanna' trade discs? I'm halfway tempted to trade my copy for another at Fry's. The reason I listed the problem is because of the reports of several others who had the same experience as myself, which makes me wonder if it is a disc QC problem.
