The Firmware upgrade that allows the BD-UP5000 play Avatar breaks the Blu-Ray for Sunshine (the Sci-Fi movie).
On Sunshine the menus never appear and the menu button and the pop-up menu buttons do nothing. The format war will not be determined by a BOGO sale at Amazon.com

Now I'm real MAD!!!
Now I cannot play several
titles from FOX (about 10 of them so far), plus Pirates of the Carribeans 3!!!! And all this because of the new firmware update from Samsung, version 1.5, for my 5000
player!!!
This is total BULL-SHIT!!!
What the f*ck is going on????????????????

Somebody, HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Samefuckin'song ain't no more!
I took matters into my own hands and throw my player by the window (4th floor). ...Ends up down below in the street into millions fragments.

I feel good now, I feel better than James Brown.
Samsung, ain't no more, not now, not ever!
* Oh by the way, there were three new
titles that also couldn't play no more. But I guess nobody cares any longer now, right?

I was so frustrated at that moment that I couldn't think about YouTube.
But I did look down below the street.
...Made sure about people and cars.
* Maybe I can glue it back together and repeat the experience, but this time with a video camera...
At the time of the incident, there was a new total of 14 recently discovered UNPLAYABLE
titles (13 from FOX!
).
Anyone cares for the list?Bob

We got a winner!
Yup, in order to play Avatar on
in your Samdung 5000 player, you have to face all the consequences that is required, including the high possibility of total destruction.
* Just get an Oppo or Panny player instead.
>>> NOTE: Because you hit post #100 above, you just have been declared the lucky winner of a brand new
player!
That's right!
Your player should arrive shortly to your home address (UPS delivery).
It is a Samdung BD-UP5000 player!

Lordy, Lordy
Are you for real? You could have sold it someone.... like me for example.
LOLZ...
Ok, OK, so there may be some Bluray frustrations but for HD DVD and SD playback I still rate it top notch... even EQUAL to or slightly better than my XA2.
Oh well... Hope to dont get a ticket for littering.

^ Lordy! I like that!
...And no, no littering ticket!
Reality sometimes is way passed fiction, and at the time of my frustration, I was not my real me no more!

I have both the BD-UP5000 and Toshiba HD-XA2 and sure wouldn't rate the BD-UP5000 equal to the HD-XA2 for HD DVD or DVD. I don't recall any playback issues for either format with the HD-XA2 and it also upscales 4:3 DVD and maintains proper aspect ratio. Now for most Blu-ray discs, the BD-UP5000 is better but as LordoftheRingsEE indicates for quite a number, there is no difference.

Not that it probably matters to anyone at this stage, but I have encountered an import that won't load on the Samsung...
Mr. & Mrs. Smith POLISH IMPORT
Not sure if this ran previously to version 1.5 as I only just received it. Plays fine on all my Toshiba machines.
So that just makes 2 HD DVD discs out of all that I own that I have encountered problems with... the one above and LA SCONOSCUITA Italian Import. That one plays perfectly fine but its not possible to select English subtitles. OK on Toshibas though.Last edited by CanadaPhil; 06-03-2010 at 08:22 AM.
