Why? Because they discontinue it? buy it....be one of us cool guys who actually own it. Be one of the last people on earth to have a dual format machine with the Reon chip and 7.1 analog outs.

Advanced audio codecs to come in Feb. This player will indeed have it "ALL". However, if you wait until late Feb or early March, you may be S.O.L.

Did you read the atricle?

The good news is that Samsung doesn't see the BD-UP5500 as a replacement, and promises a suitable replacement for the high-end dual-format customer in the second half of '08
The BD-UP5500 will be the entry level dual-format player and there will be a new high end dual-format player to replace the BD-UP5000

Which is fine....but when it replaces the 5000, what will it have that the 5000 doesn't have? Maybe more internal memory, but as far as features.....I'm coming up blank as to what else it could have.

I dont think its a matter of the new one having better features, from the way it reads it sounds like they had problems with the 5000 and will replace it with a new design.
I guess I will wait and see on this one.

But the firmware can fix that. Sounds like a waste of money to redesign something when all it needs is software solution.

As long as this new BD-UP5500 has the HQV Reon Chip, I'll buy it!

There's probably an upcoming issue we have yet to see imo, why else would they discontinue it only to release a new one soon?

From the article Broadcoms tech. is the problem....Cause if the audio problems get fixed next month....I haven't any real issues beyond that. I don't care for half the features on discs, interactive ones especially.

Still I hope to get one by the time I get my Tax refund.

I just KNEW when they already announced a new model at CES that they were going to discontinue this one. This is absolutely pathetic. I don't trust Samsung anymore at all regarding bd. They are just nuts. I have never seen anything like it. Where are these people's brains? just stunning that they would already bag on this player. They obviously have NO FUCKING idea what they are doing anymore.

But it's being discountinued for a reason...being Broadcom.

Now...if they don't release a update for the players audio...then yea they have no fucking idea what they are doing....

This makes me even more glad that I decided to keep my PS3 and just upgrade from the 360 add-on to an A35, rather than get rid of the add-on AND the PS3 in favor of this pile of crap.
