Default So is the bp-5000 firmware update out yet?

Ordered a Bp-5000 back in December. Will ship from amazon.com this afternoon. Curious if the firmware update that fixes playback issues is out. Looked at some threads and it seems it is but it also looks like others still are not happy. Also can some please direct me to the most complete list of discs HD DVD or Blu-Ray that are having problems with said player. Thanks

the first firmware has been issued, but it did not address the audio shortcomings. so people are waiting for that one still.

I am not interested in the audio problems for the time being. I live in an apartment and have to keep TV levels down. Has the new update fixed the playback problems?

My results are mixed. Previously it wouldn't, but now WILL, play 'Tears of the Sun' BD and 'The Kingdom' HD.

It still won't play 'Sunshine' BD...it tries but then hangs and won't do anything but chapter advance or stop.

It also won't play the French HD 'Stalingrad', which now makes SIX players that won't play it, so I'm not counting that.

Except that in another thread he established that it was a second copy that only worked after he downloaded the first firmware update for the machine, so the disc was NOT initially compatible with the machine out of the box.

Doesn't matter. People are still saying that Sunshine won't play past the 4 min mark, even with the new firmware.

I have Sunshine and I have watched it all the way, finally after the firmware update. But I had to turn off bitstream audio and change it to PCM. Then it was fine except for audio noise here and there.

I can confirm that at the 4:46 mark that Sunshine does freeze on the 5K. Maybe they had a bad pressing since the issues seemed to be wide spread. This of course is after the firmware update. Before the firmware update it was playing both the PiP and the movie at the same time which would fudge the playback up. Most people that have a problem now with this movie and player have the freeze happen at the same exact mark (4:46). I will try it with PCM though to se if that changes anything, but since this disc has had issues on multiple players I am thinking something is wrong with the batch.

Its good to hear though that some people are able to play the whole movie.

Sunshine didn't play past the 4:46 mark on all 4 of the UP5000 I have tested, either PCM or Bitstream. However it played just fine on my Panasonic BD10A using bitstream.

Closed the thread for centralization of this topic. I am going to try to keep the "For BDUP500 Owners" thread updated so please use that thread for firmware discussion\questions\answers.
