Samsung BD-UP5000 delayed from Amazon until 2/5/08
Just got an email that my unit won't ship until 2/5/08. I'm guessing Samsung is delaying the release of more players until it can fix some of the problems people are experiencing.

I got mine from Crutchfied one week ago
but it it going back because it doesn't play True HD thru analog. Do you know if the 1400 does?
Too bad you have to wait but it is better
to have a fully functional machine -

The 1400 plays all audio formats correctly. I sent my 5000 back to Crutchfield last Tuesday.

more likely Amazon.com just sold out of their stock and cannot get more until February
The format war will not be determined by a BOGO sale at Amazon.com

Interesting. I wonder if this is actually the case.
That they are going to work on some fixes.
I really hope that is true.
Maybe AVS has info regarding this. -

its been said time and time again that this unit was rushed out for the holidays because people were moaning and groaning that they wanted it for x-mas, ok, so now we have it. It's not 100%, but we have it. Firmware fixes are in the making. This unit WILL decode all sound formats, that is a fact. Profile 1.1 will be unlocked with a firmware patch also. So, I'm happy that I have the unit so I can use it, and will have to wait for the firmware patches. Its better than my 1200, which I had to return because it wouldnt play some of my movies. the 1400, while able to decode the sound formats, does not have the Reon chip, nor will it be 1.1 compliant, so your buying dead technology there. I say, buy the unit if you can find it, and wait. it will be awesome, just be patient.

I agree with your points chicken. Hopefully it will be fine after all the fixes. I personally cannot pull the trigger on this right now however. Too many weird posts about playback problems. What Blu-Rays and HD DVDs have you played on it? What has been your experiences so far? How bout the upscaling? Do you think the Reon chip is working at its top ability?

I haven't had any playback issues (don't have any HD-DVD's yet), and the Reon chip is nice, it upconverts nicely, however I'm guessing there might be some tweaking that they can do. DVD's certainly look better on this unit than on a standard DVD player. The Reon chip with HQV is simply the best upconverter around. It doesn't get any better. The Samsung 1200 is the only other machine (that I know of) that has it, and THAT unit has major issues.

Actually The Realta chip is even better. The Denon bd unit is supposed to be getting it. Of course that player is priced at $2000.

Good...better.....eh, I'm happy with the Reon. Once HD's become more and more plentiful (and the wave of the future), the upconverting chip won't even be necessary. It's nice to have a "pretty damn good one" for now, but I wouldn't go overboard and pay $2000 for it.

I don't own the Samsung BD-P1400 but understand the following from what I have read regarding handling of lossless audio:
1. The BD-P1400 with new firmware outputs DTS-HD MA bitstream over HDMI 1.3 for processing by external HDMI 1.3 capable decoder. The BD-P1400 does not decode DTS-HD MA and isn't hardware capable and therefore won't be upgraded to do it.
2. The BD-P1400 decodes Dobly TrueHD internally and outputs PCM over HDMI for handling by external HDMI 1.1 and above processing. The BD-P1400 also outputs analog 5.1 audio for Dolby TrueHD.
3. The BD-P1400 handles uncompressed lossless PCM by outputting PCM over HDMI 1.1 or above. The BD-P1400 decodes lossless PCM for output over the analog 5.1 connections.
It would be nice if someone that owns the BD-P1400 can confirm this as the information being posted at times is confusing.
