Forget this $1000 paperweight…
A better idea, if you just can’t live without HD DVD playback? Find a cheap A2 on e-Bay and watch as many movies on it as you can before Warner gives HD DVD the boot in 2008.
Think that’s not gonna happen?
How likely do you think it will be that Warner will keep supporting both sides and thereby perpetuate a product war that’s going to kill its own profits?Sony 46XBR2 LCD Flat-panel display

kill its own profit, wooooow. Wasn't there an article right on this site saying warner's the big money maker in this HD war??? From a more neutral viewpoint, I agree that this player is way to expensive, you can buy both players for less, and you'll end up with 12 HD DVDs and 5 BDs for free... thats a woopin 17 movies

Well, the software sales are so low that a payoff from one of the sides could easily outweigh losing x % marketshare.
I totally agree with your analysis of the pricing. Personally:
-$299 (sony cc deal) for PS3 (40GB) w/6 free movies
-$99 (best buy mistake) for A3, w 7/free movies
Grand total before tax to be completely covered is $398 w/ 13 movies included. I have to admit I also paid $24.99 for a PS3 remote btw.. -

299 for a PS3, where did u get that? thats one good price. I didnt bother getting a remote yet
buying a sold-seperately hdmi cable after opening the box turned me off to start with. im usin the controller instead, for now.
are warner's sales that low? that would mean nobody's makin money.. -

I had a chance to work with the LG for a few weeks and consider it a decent piece of electronics. LG did alot of thinking before producing this model, but also left some important things out. I guess the Samsung bd-up5000 looks much more attractive to me, and it's going to be 200.00 cheaper and has been shipped to dealers, from what I have heard....It has 7.1 analog output, the LG does not. The Samsung will send Dolby True DTS HD and Master through the 7.1 analogs as well as HDMI (DTS master to be added via firmware, but it only took 1 week after release to update their 1300 blu-ray player). My Denon receiver was made 1 year before HDMI, so no HDMI and certainly no true/master decoders, so this will save me from buying a new receiver. The Samsung also sports the Reon HQV upscaler, very very important to me for my large dvd collection. I also have heard, but not confirmed, that the Samsung will be upgradable to BD 2.0 with firmware. So the player seems to have everything.
The only reason is hesitate is: do I want to invest any money in hd-dvd. I don't say that to anger any followers of hd-dvd, I have nothing against the format...it's quality is just as good when discs are optimally pressed and there is enough space to include lossless, ect, but I just don't think Warner is going to go that route and Blu has the advantage in content, and has Disney, which Warner will surely consider. I don't want this to be a smackdown remark and it isn't meant to be, but I think Warner knows if they go blu, they will end the format war much sooner. If they go red, it's a split and will go on much longer, and that caqrries the danger of both becoming niche formats.Denon avr-3808 receiver, Playstation 3 60gb,Epson 1080 high def projector, Elite Screens 150" diag.screen, Denon 3930 DVD player w/realta.
