Has Anybody Seen a Samsung 5000 in a retail store?

guess you haven't seen how frustrated the bd-p1200 owners like myself are for lack of firmware updates and the inability to watch so many new releases..Samsung sucks

Yeah I have...I'm more worried about Samsung's first go with HD DVD on this player. I mean I can understand Blu's playback issues and I'm ok with it. Toshiba's got a really good track record when it comes to playback issues. I'm looking for a player that'll do bitstreaming of all audio codecs on both formats via HDMI to my 605. Currently the cheapest route to bitstreaming is an A35 & Sammy 1400. It's approximately $665 considering I have Amazon Prime. If this goes for $700 I can probably get $100 for my A2 and $400 min. for my 80 gig PS3. That's a $500 difference to achieve my goal, consolidation is just a bonus. By having only 1 player I can run my DVR to my 605 through HDMI, freeing up an optical for my PC.

I just gave up and bought an Integra 9.8 processor (love those balanced outputs to drive the Theta!) so I have multiple HDMI bitstream inputs. I'll just add a blu-ray player when there are some cheap 1.1 options available, as the XA2 rocks.

I rather suspect the 5000 is going to have a lot of issues when it gets out there. The XA2 took five months to get stable and really work right with all features. Since Samsung has no experience with HD DVD, I expect issues.

Look all this talk about Samsung sucking with the 1200 and the 1400 seems to forget one very important fact--that those players were NOT 1.1. I think this will make all the difference in the world regarding playback. I mean the reviewer from 'Sound and Vision" had absolutely NO problems with this player regarding playback issues. Now of course some will occur, but it will be NOTHING like the crappy 1200 and 1400 regarding these newer Fox titles imo.

LOL, Arkadin, you have way more faith in software development than I do.

They are putting out their first 1.1 and HD DVD player, both in the same box.

I look forward to being surprised by glowing reviews of flawless performance, but I'll place odds it's 2-3 months before it stablizes. :-)

Also, at least one of the reviews I read noted a good many issues like 24fps audio sync which they assumed would be ironed out before shipping.

According to a few folks over at AVS the Sammy has started shipping from BBB. If this pans out we may have our first user reviewed within the next week or so. Of course until proven this is only their word and we will have to take it on a wait and see. Most have theirs due for Monday though.

I haven't seen the specs of either the 5000 or the LG player, but if they don't have the Reon HQV upconverting chip, it seems a waste to me.

A dual player should really maximize all your playback options - including standard def upconversion.

5000 does have the Reon chip.
one of the main reasons to get it imo.

I canceled my order from Amazon and just pre-ordered it from 1call because of the 12 months no interest and the better price. The guy on the phone said they currently have 180 pre-orders for it so when I will be receiving it is anyone's guess. The guy also said they have gotten a TON of interest in this player which is true. I am amazed at how much interest this player has generated.

There are at least two guys on AVS that actually got the players today and several others (including myself) that have had them shipped. In my case from Crutchfield.
