Default LG BH200 Goes Full Profile

Just posted:

Quote:
Due before the end of October, LG's new dual-format player may end up being the first Blu-ray player to hit the market with secondary BD-Java support.

As we've previously reported, the BDA has mandated all that Blu-ray players launched after October 31, 2007 include a series of features (including full BD-J support) in order to be Profile 1.1 compliant. The updates will enable a series of functions not supported by current Blu-ray players, including true video picture-in-picture playback.

Although to date, no manufacturer has released a Profile 1.1 player ahead of the BDA deadline, LG said yesterday that its soon-to-street BH200 dual-format player will include "full profile specifications" for Blu-ray players....

Default Pricepoint

Is this going to be 1000 dollars like the first player. If it is it would make more sense to me to get the a 35 and either a 40 or 60 gig ps3 . Thats what i did anyway. The first player seemed to have alot of bugs and problems. Since they are going to be updating the ps3 to profile 1.1 soon, the only real advantage of the player would be dts hd ma bitstreaming over hdmi for blu-ray. I am a gamer so for me it was a no brainer. I guess i could see the appeal for someone who doesn't have the space for 2 machines.

I think David Vaughn, an insider on AVS, announced that this would be sub-$1000 MSRP, so list prices could be considerably less.

This looks like a great addition to the product line for both formats.

My question, which is very important to me, is will it have the Reon HQV upscaler like the Samsung will. Does anyone have a spec link for this?

here's some info on the player, anyone know if it has 7.1 analog outs?

http://reviews.cnet.com/video-player...-32595250.html

ADDED LATER...acording to this link, at the top, it gives an update and says this player will have only stereo analog outputs, the Samsung will have 7.1. Not good, since I have no HMDI receiver and my Denon receiver does have 7.1 inputs.I'd rather not spend for the receiver to decode the sound, since the combi player will cost enough!

but will the samsung decode dts hd ma? if not, and it only outputs bitstream, you will still need a receiver to decode...

last we heard, LG's planned msrp for the BH200 was $999. yes, it's pricey. but on the bright side, that's $200 less than the first one was back in January... hopefully samsung entering into the dual-format player market will bring prices down further.

We need more dual format players coming out! I'm so tired of this format war and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Default BH200 Profile?

The article seems to imply that the BH200 will be a Profile 1.1 player, but the closest thing to a quote from LG in the article is that the player will "include full profile specifications". If you read LG's press release for the BH200 from Sept. 5 it says that the player will have “the capability to handle networked ‘BD-Live’ interactivity in forthcoming Blu-ray discs”. BD-Live is Blu-ray’s name for Profile 2. I would have liked to have seen this point made clearer in the article- or at least mentioned.

Well, there was a promised firmware update for DTS Master sound on this player (the Samsung) when it was coming out in October, but it appears they have changed it to December, so possibly all of this will be included. According to atricles I have read, this player will send the DTS HD and Dolby True out the 7.1 analogs, I am not sure about DTS master. I am wondering with the delay of this player if they will do profile 2.0, we'll see....This player seems more attractive to me due to the fact it has 7.1 analog outs, and the HQV processor, which almost seems like a must if you have a large dvd collection. Here's a few stories I have found regarding the Samsung combi, the story which was updated to say it will include decoders for all the new sound formatsm keep in mind these announcement were made before the delay of the player, so everything could be included now:

about time a real dual format player hits the streets... now if they can just be competetive on the price it'd be sweet for a person with only one set of analog inputs on their reciever(i.e. my dad... so he can take his hd dvd player to the mountain house so when i go up there i don't have to bring my xbox360 and hd add on... that'd be nice)

Sort of. 3 of us own them and are discussing them at the avsforum.

I would post a link but can't.

AVS Forum > Blu-ray & HD DVD Areas > Dual Format Players and then the thread titled "LG BH200 Owner Review"
