The addition of the LED engine in last years models upped the quality of these sets even more. I'm wondering if they are going announce a new model for 2009.

hope so... It's sad DLP is dying. It's extremely inexpensive, has fantastic picture quality, no longer uses bulbs(so you never have to replace anything), and is capable of huge screens at low prices. The only negative is viewing angles but christ, these are usually less than half the price of an LCD/Plasma of similar size.
I've heard some stuff about this new LaserVue tech as well but I haven't been impressed with what i've heard. Am I right that I read that the viewing angles still aren't great and these are priced right at the same price as plasmas and lcds? If so, forget it.

Unfortunatly it's biggest draw back is that you can't mount it over the fire place... Ironically most people who buy an HDTV for that reason never do, perhaps because they realize installing a wallmount isn't as easy as the commercials make it look! Sad, so sad because I love my toshiba DLP, it rocks the house. I guess the only solace I can take to heart from this is that if I'm not mistaken I do belive that Mitsubishi's laser view is technically DLP based, so it'll sort of live on.

LaserVue is pretty much like DLP (using lasers instead of bulbs/LEDs, however).
According to what I was told, LaserVue should come down in price quite early.

I'm sorry folks but rear projections TVs are over.
As for them being cheaper? Yes, maybe, but flat panels have fallen to such a low price point, they aren't even that much cheaper. Remember, you can now get a 50" 1080P Panny Plasma for only $1250. Or you can get a 52" 1080P LCD for $1300 nowadays. The only advantage to DLP was the screen sizes of over 60" still being affordable. But honestly, its not going to be long before 60" plus LCD sets are available for less than 2k.

It's tough because I get bigger and bigger sets every time and I still want bigger. I am up to a 60 inch A2000 now. Next time I want 70-73" Sets in this range jump from 2 Grand to 20 grand.

Didn't AU propose putting a flat out ban on plasmas a while back?

I think once you're talking about TV screens that are 70+ inches I just really can't imagine what advantage FP would have over RP. Seriously, who's going to mount that on a wall? You'll need speacial shelving regardless! You're better off with RP all around

I just checked Google and it appears my Samsung LED DLP pulls around 150-200 watts. I'm really surprised these displays pull so much.
