Default Damn 1080p Bring on Ultra High Def!!

My jaw dropped when I saw this 82 inch Samsung running Ultra High Def program. People were just amazed at the resolution, they had a side by side comparison with 1080p and it wasn't even close.

I didn't even dare ask what was the cost of the 82 inch tv and cost of Ultra High Def.

Here is a pic

and here is video link

My understanding is that 55" Cinema 4k displays, one supposedly made by Sony and the other made by Westinghouse are ~$55,000 last I heard.

I don't think so.

Bluray just got going.

Its funny though, I do remember when DVD just started out, in 99' and 2000, that some people were already thinking, Damn DVD Bring on High Definition.

Yeah I remember that too.

Blu-ray not even close to Ultra High Def. The side by side (1080p broadcast) said it all. Don't think will see a Ultra High Def player for several years so yes will have to settle for Blu-ray for now

Where is that time machine when I need it.

Heck, if Toshiba says they can upscale DVD to 1080p, then Sony and the other BD companies will figure out how to upscale Blu-ray to 4k.

Last I heard that the Japanese are hoping to make it an international standard and start broadcasting with it by 2015. Ultra HD or Super Hi-Vision has been an experimental format since... oh IIRC 2004 by NHK and the BBC. The target resolution is actually 7680×4320.

Given that it's still experimental and anything can change, I don't expect CE companies or studios to push something like this for another decade. Or at least when HD penetration is good enough or SD becomes a thing of the past.
