Default 3-D Ready TVs a Smash at CES 2009:

    3-D Ready TV's a Smash at CES 2009

You know all about HDTV-ready TVs, but what about 3-D ready? You may not be thinking about dropping $7,000 on a new TV, but if you were, the Mitsubishi model I saw at the Consumer Electronics Show press event Tuesday evening here is one you should consider.
Came across this article on 'thestreet.com'. Interesting read on new 3-D TV's. And video on new LaserVue technology.

Well, I'm not aware of any US/Japan company, but there's a German company which already produces these kind of TVs where glasses aren't necessary. They cost like 50k, however.

I'm still upset about having to walk around in 3-D, I'm not going to buy a TV that displays in 3-D.

I think I might like the laser TV though.

Nice, now we wait 10 years for the price to drop a few Ks

What people seem to think is that 3D automatically means the images popping out of the screen.

That's not what I want at all. What I want from 3D TV is to be able to see depth in an image. To be able to tell if a field goal is going to be good when looking at the goal post dead on and not from the side. Same thing in futbol. I'm tired of seeing a ball look like it went straight in the goal from the side angle, when it really was way off to the side.

Imagine seeing giant landscapes and cities the way you see them in real life, where you can appreciate the scale. Thats what I hope 3D TV achieves some day.

What you just described is exactly what this German 3DTV does, I was talking about earlier.

Damn it, if I would just remember the name of it's brand.

I just want porn in 3-D. That will be that technology's killer app.

IMO - Phil Swan summed it up best:

Best Wishful Thinking of the Week Goes to...Panasonic!

Several TV makers this week proudly displayed new sets that can display 3-D images. But perhaps no TV maker was more bullish on the technology than Panasonic which even had a motto for it: "You've stepped up to HD, now step into 3D."

If Panasonic doesn't watch out, they're going to step in it all right. While 3-D has some potential in movie theaters, home viewers have not shown much enthusiasm for donning special goggles while sitting around the old living room. They also are not likely to pay more money for TVs that offer 3-D features.

Now I know that's what Panasonic (and other TV makers are) hoping for -- that people will be enticed to spend more money for televisions. But it's just wishful thinking, guys.

One day -- oh, I trust, one day -- the industry will finally understand that Americans want their television experience to be relaxing, simple and convenient; not interactive, complicated and costly.

LED technology has really impressed me. But I suppose I haven't seen a laser TV set yet either.
