Thumbs up LG announces BD390 BD player-Wireless built in

I was wondering when these would start to pop up. It will certainly help BD-Live considering most users don't want to run a a cat5 cable to their entertainment system. I expect to hear similar announcements from other BD makers.

BD390 Network Blu-ray Player

The BD390 joins the growing list of LG products offering Netflix streaming. The player also offers upscaling of DVDs to 1080p and wireless networking to access entertainment anywhere in the home.

The BD390 also features:

* BD-Live content and 1GB of built-in memory
* BonusView with picture-in-picture
* Dolby TrueHD, Digital Plus and DTS-HD Advanced Digital Out
I also found this very interesting.

This is LG's new 1080p plasma series with 50- and 60-inch models that have 600Hz FluidMotion technology and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Ok, honestly...are we going to see any difference between 600Hz and 120Hz refresh rates?

I was wondering the same thing when I read about the new 240hz displays coming out. Even that seems like overkill so 600hz certainly sounds like overkill to me.

More TV news please. This is going to make buying a TV next fall so much easier as more TV companies hit the 1,000,000:1 numbers and more are using LED. CAN'T WAIT!

I agree that having Wi-fi built in is a great idea but some of us do. I have 2 wireless 5 port bridges set upstairs and downstairs on both of my entertainment centers. I invested in them awhile back so that I wouldnt have to worry about it. They have been great.

That is what I did about a year ago. It is simple and easy to set up plus a lot of wireless routers can be turned into a bridge mode. Problem is most people don't know about wireless bridges but they do know how to set up wireless. I think this will be a much easier solution for people who aren't to technical.

The 600Hz refresh is just marketing jargon. Plamsas run at 60Hz, but refresh each pixel 10-12 times (typically), hence you get 600-720Hz.

I have been trying to get an ethernet to wireless adapter working with my LG BD300 Blu-ray/Netflix player without any luck. This player is a great idea. I just gave up and will use my PS3 for whatever streaming options that becomes available with it, it connects and works great with my wireless network.

Ya lazy bums. Run some wire and enjoy high speed non shared connections. I did this in my house and stream content (SD & HD) to all my TV's from my media server. Best investment ever.

Edit: In regards to this product, it is good they are providing wireless since the customer clearly wants it. Would hate to be the support personnel cause you know they are going to get lots of calls.

I've yet to find a non-laptop with good built-in Wifi, singal and reception problems abound with this stuff. Hope it's good. Also hope it has modern Wifi security, I need something that works with WPA+PSK2. I don't want to turn down my security to match the lowest security device on the network. Otherwise, "All your credit cards are belong to me."

Do any wireless devices still get released without WPA2 in 2008/9? This Belkin Skype phone I have from 1996 has the latest generation of WPA...

I'm using a PowerLine solution by Zyxel to connect my theater to the 'net in any case.

The refresh rate sounds like more marketing BS...it's unwise to fall for it.

Oh hell yeah! When that LG 240hz tv comes out I'm gonna give my 42LG50 42 inch 60hz tv with only a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio tv to my sister and I'm gonna hop on the 42 inch 240hz tv. I think that'll have at least 60,000:1 on it, right? But I wont get it until it comes out and is out for awhile. Then when the price drops to <$1,500 I'll hop on it and if the BD390 is <400 dollars I'll get it together with the TV. But the prices both have to be in those ranges. A BD player with wifi? Hell yes! I've been saying that for years they need to make one with wifi and LG is a brand I trust greatly. More than Samsung and Sony of course. Plasma I still dont like. I've seen the 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio tvs panasonic made for vieja plasmas, it aint about sh*t. So I think it's still better to stay true to LCD. Who's with me?

Not me. Also, I'll take Samsung and Pioneer over LG most days of the week.

All that talk of superfast refresh rates is nothing more than snake oil, so are all the high contrast ratios, especially considering there is no standardized way to measure it. I take any claims with a grain of salt. I can't speak for Panasonic but CR is unmatched when it comes to Pioneer Plasmas.
