That sucks. Have you called the venue to see if they have any scooters or motorized wheelchairs for use for someone with a temporary handicap? I did this once and everyone, the hotel, the venue, the show all came through for me when I twisted my ankle just before a show in Atlanta.

I've been to CES for 6 straight years and this year is the worse one. Less booths and not as many visitors.

No excitement at the Microsoft booth, just showed Gears of War 2, Fable II, Fallout 3 and NXE. They did tell me there would be two big Xbox Live games released in March but couldn"t tell me the names of the games,

Not impressed at all by Microsoft's display. I'd give them a C-

The best things I saw was

LED TV's, Blu-Ray players with instant streaming and portable Blu-ray player. I have video that i will post later (really busy with people in town)

For those who think streaming/hd downloads aren't ready you are wrong. It's here now and was the best thing I saw yesterday. Viera Cast and BroadBand TV will be available this year.

I didn't make it over to Sony or Toshiba booths yesterday will get there today.

CES mood isn't as exciting as previous years.

I have to run but I will post more info tonight.

Here are some pics I had time to post. The portable Blu-ray player is one of the pics.

Sounds like Gout. My cousin gets it from time to time. Eat less protein and drink lots and I mean lots of water. Booze doesn't help and actually will make it worse. Sorry about your condition. Hope you get better.

I got here just fine.
I walked around the strip for maybe two hours.
I sat down in a hotel room and talked a friend for about an hour. During that time my right foot
began to hurt. When we got up leave the room my foot really bothered me when I put weight on
it. I have been unable to stretch it out or relieve the pain yet.

I am going to spend some time in my jacuzzi tub tonight before I go to bed and I am taking some
Ibuprofen. My mother also suggested that I sleep with my foot elevated.

I really don't think my foot will become magically healed over night, but I hope it does. Not only
will I not be able to enjoy the show tomorrow, I won't be able to enjoy anything else that Vegas
has to offer.

I am really pissed. My body has never betrayed me like this before.

I will let you guys know WHEN my condition improves.

Good thing I don't drink alcohol. I have been in my room staying off my foot for the most part.
I have been drinking a lot of water too since that is the only free drink or food that I can get
in my room. I am going to attempt to go to the show this afternoon after I buy a pair of sandals
or slippers. My foot is not swollen but when I put my tennis shoe on and take a few steps, it
hurts like hell.

There is too much walking to do if your foot is hurting. My feet were killing me after all the walking I did between CES and various hotels.

Try and rent one of those carts, I saw several people in one.

If it is gout, here's what I read at Wiki:

Quote:
Before medical help is available, some over-the-counter medications can provide temporary relief from pain and swelling. NSAIDs such as ibuprofen can reduce the pain and inflammation slightly, although aspirin should not be used as it can worsen the condition. This is because aspirin raises plasma uric acid levels even at low doses by inhibiting uric acid secretion in the renal tubules[citation needed]. Aspirin also reduces vasodilatation due to inhibition of prostaglandin PGE2 and PGI2 synthesis in the renal medulla and glomeruli respectively (see mechanism of action of aspirin). This may be a contra-indication for the use of aspirin for gout pain as well.

The anti-hemorrhoidal ointment Preparation H can reduce gout-induced skin swelling temporarily. Ice may be applied for 20 to 30 minutes several times a day, and a randomized controlled trial found that patients who used ice packs had better relief of pain without side effects.[31] Since gout is caused by crystals, it has been suggested[citation needed] that keeping very well hydrated and heating the affected joint in hot water (rather than cooling with ice) will promote the dissolution and clearance of the urate crystals. Adequate hydration is a standard recommendation. However, a small study found that only icing, not heating, was beneficial.[32] Keeping the affected area elevated above the level of the heart also may help.

Hope you feel better soon, Mentok.

Mentok, if it is Gout --that's something I've grown to suffer from in the last 2yrs. Although not "clinically diagnosed" (ie: have a Dr tell me so), I'm quite certain of it. I avoid beer like the plague anymore, and only do hard alcohol in moderation. Unfortunately, if you do have it (can occur at any age, I believe), there is no 'miracle' or 'quick cure'. The uric acid has to dissipate in time. (A bad flare-up can take a week.)

However, some recommendations: eat/drink lots of raspberry/blueberry/berry drinks or raw fruit (if you can find in Vegas). I know it sounds like witch doctor stuff, but go to Walgreens (there's a couple near the strip) and buy the Kinoki footpads and leave them on overnight. Avoid beef (hamburgers, steak, etc.). Chicken seems best (although if you read Wikipedia it will recommend you go vegetarian, essentially), but I find certain types of fish aren't too bad, either.

And, absolutely take the maximum recommended dosage of ibuprofen, as instructed on the package. Make sure to take it at the most frequent intervals recommended, too. --This is the only thing approaching a 'quick' solution for the problem (again, if it is Gout).

Also, you have to 100% de-stress. If you're trying to get to everything for commitments to HDD, etc. --you may be stressing (even though you're in the city of 'playtime'). For example, I was just on vacation last week (including LV), and drank like a pig with no problems. But, now, back at work this week, my right foot has got the 'preliminary gout ache'; meaning that I have to be careful what I eat, etc.

Hope you get better. Bummer to be incapacitated in Vegas (and it not be due to a hangover).

You don't need a vivid imagination to know that the CES location was equipped with state of the art Internet connectivity (fiber no doubt), so this isn't the best place to judge how "ready" it is for the average end user. And great, two more competitors being brought to the market...sounds like HD downloads will blow up any day now.

@moe

You mentioned this years CES is the worst.
Is it even worse than last years CES, when Warner dropped HD-DVD and all you could see from Toshiba was an empty booth with nothing but a table and some chairs?

What's your problem with HD Downloads? Do you have a problem with Blu-ray players with streaming capabilities or broadband tv?

I download movies and stream more than I buy movies even when HD DVD was around. I have a Blu-ray player and I'm happy with it but I only buy the blockbusters on Blu-ray and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way.

So again I ask what is your problem with HD downloads when people are already doing it?
