Default Bang & Olufsen drop combo player plans, will only make Blu-ray player

From a CES attendee on AVS:

Peter Petersen, B&O's Chief Technology Officer, said they had been planning on making a combo player but after Friday's Warner's announcement they have dropped plans to include HD DVD and now will develop only a BD player. He said it would be available in 2009.

AFAIK, nothing was ever made public about B&O making any player, but I guess this puts the kibosh on any speculation that may have existed.

Some of my first quality electronics was from B&O during the Jenson era (the seventies)...and honestly, they haven't made anything that I've found appealing since.

I'd like to see it though! Some of their equipment is a little off the wall but some of it is pretty impressive.

I have one of their Beosound 9000 CD changers and it works quite well. (I use a separate amp and different speakers though). It still 'wows' people when they come over and it always keeps the disc labels upright.

B&O does make good stuff, but their aesthetic means you can't really integrate it with other gear easily. They're one of those companies you have to buy into their entire concept to get.
