Default Upcoming Chinese Blu-ray player plans "leaked"

From Format War Central's Dave Cowl, who is attending CES (emphasis mine):
Quote:
While I can’t release any details, today I was ‘leaked’ a brochure for a Chinese manufactured Blu-ray Disc player. The player is currently being demonstrated to invited guests at the company’s suite at CES.

According to the tentative specifications, this player will be HDMI 1.3 and 1080p capable. While it features 5.1 analogue outputs, it appears to decode Dolby Digital and DTS only - no advanced codecs are mentioned. The player is apparently based on a Sigma Designs core.

Sorry that I can’t be more specific, I don’t want to upset my source on this one. I will attempt to get in the loop regarding any formal press information on this unit.

One thing I can assure you - the cheaper price point players are coming.
This confirms the news from a Sigma Designs engineer that their SoC solution is being used by at least one unique player (as in not a rebadge like Venturer or Onkyo) from Chinese manufacturers, possibly quite soon. He also noted that Sigma has been approached by many vendors since the Warner announcement.

The general hints are that we're looking at just a matter of weeks. "Saw IV" comes out January 22 with BD-Live content, I wonder if we may see it by then.

No prob, but the real thanks goes to the guys at sites like this one, as well as Engadget /EngadgetHD, Gizmodo, Format War Central (the owner posts here I believe), and yes, Blu-ray.com. Even some posters from other forums like AVS that are at CES are a good source.

To paraphrase "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", I'm just this guy, you know?

Oh, and BTW, looks like this is my 3,000th post. Whew!
