$249 for a standalone profile 1.1 full 1080p player, and no doubt even cheaper by the holiday season? Keep telling yourself that.

Not good enough, needs to be Profile 2.0.
But people are dumb, and still will go with the lesser product. I have no problem paying $249 for a stand alone that does Profile 2.0 along with 1.1 and 1.0 or however many profiles BD has.

Interesting that they're only giving numbers for units sold in the US. I suppose the presentation is only specific to the states.

There are about 9 million PS3s sold worldwide alone, not include separate players.

When there is only one option I think you'll see people stepping up to the plate. They had already estimated that 22% interviewed were waiting for some kind of resolution.

There's nothing wrong with a Profile 1.1 player. As for the games/network stuff, that's why we all have computers and gaming consoles. That stuff is all just a bunch of gimmicks created by both sides. One day they'll find a truly great use for it, but until then, they're useless to me.

I'll have whatever they're smoking. Only 500,000 SA players sold? Heck, HD-DVD is at or near 1 million and look what happened. Sounds like they're pinning everything on the Play Station. (And how much will the 2.0 player cost? I'll pass.)

The prices they charge? Are you talking about for the players, which is only slightly higher than HD DVD? Or the movies, which are spot on equal?

Oh, no...Wait a sec. You're probably talking about what'll happen now that the 'Blu monopoly' is taking hold. Raising prices on EVERYTHING!!!! Makes total sense....Take care of the competition, and then make sure that NOBODY buys your product, either.

Some real business wizards on these forums....

Still riding high on Warner's announcement last Friday that it would exclusively back Blu-ray, format backers told a packed room of tech reporters that roughly 3.5 million Blu-ray players have now been sold through to consumers, including three million PlayStation 3 consoles and 500,000 standalone Blu-ray players.

According to a company press release, Sony sold through 1.2 million units of the PS3 in the period beginning Friday, November 23, 2007 and ending December 31, 2007.
Are these just US numbers??? One article states that there are only 3.5 million players, and another states that sold 1.2 million in one month (meaning from launch to that article, there were only 2.3 million PS3), and another article states total US PS3 at something like 6 million sold in US??? Someone please explain to me where my math is going wrong?

What they charge in players they've more than made up for in media. Can't imagine paying $29 for every combo disc release.

If you have any sort of HD-DVD movie collection then you've already shelled out more than most us of if you add up your receipts.

Most people dont give two shits about profile 1.1 and 2.0 and never listen to director's commentary, let alone have a PIP commentary going. And the online interactivity is the worst gimmick ever. You HD DVD fanboys keep complaining about features that nobody cares about.

People will buy Blu-ray players for the same reason they always have, superior quality. Nobody is buying Hi-Def machines for PIP or online interactivity except people dumb enough to invest into HD DVD in the first place.

Expensive HD is what consumer will get if Blu-Ray wins.
I am not buying a PS3 or Blu-Ray or supporting any BDA moves.
Warner will back down, since there are double standalone players on HD DVD than on Blu-Ray... i think the party started too early.
