Default Why has no one reported on the HD-DVD Promotions booth at CES!?!

I know their press conference was cancelled but has no one even gone over to scope out their booth? It's RIGHT NEXT to the Blu-Ray Booth. Are people all scared to be the first one to walk in? Or did they pull up camp and leave? What's going on?!

I doubt there's anything new on display in their booths. So, that leaves nothing new to report.

Do they have a stock pile of A35's with 20 freebies in the box for sale?

There's a picture floating around that shows the two booths. The HD DVD booth is like 15x20, with one or two people. The Blu-ray booth is an entire section, like 100x100, and packed. If I find it, I'll post it.

EDIT: Ah, here it is:

This exact scene was just reported by NPR (i.e. "HD DVD's booth was almost empty...")

Well, Microsoft dropped out, more or less, so it's just Toshiba now.

i think it's one of those things where you can't tell if it's open by looking at it, and nobody wants to be the first guy to go up and pull on the door just to find out that it's locked.

Zombieflanders, thanks for the pic, do you have the link for the accompanying press snippet?

That is phenomenal, the CES booth is empty, Amazon sales are plummeting, players are flooding eBay to rock bottom selling prices, I've said it once and I'll say it again, I never though it would happen this fast after the announcement.

The same thing happened to Blu-ray after the Paramount announcement. People are idiots and panic. It happens. The long-term impact of this won't be known until Toshiba formulates a real response.

Josh, on the one hand, you're right about the panic factor. On the other hand, the difference in booth size and presentation shows a very different level of investment between the two camps, and that call to invest was made a while ago when the floor space was purchased.

Glad I'm purple in principle, though I'm still waiting for a BD player that won't be obsolete before I buy it.

The same thing? Did I miss the Blu booth at the Sept CES? I can't believe people are comparing the two situations. Regarding industry shake-up, the Paramount decision is nothing compared to Warner decision.

I reported on the HD DVD booth here:

There's really not much to see there...
