Default New Samsung 1500 BD player w/ DTS MA

From Engadget:

MSRP: $399
Estimated release: 5/08

Hard to believe that CES 2007 was the venue at which Samsung launched its second-generation Blu-ray player, as just 12 months later we're staring the fourth-gen unit right in the face. Coming this May, the BD-P1500 will support 1080p playback (not to mention 720p / 1080i / 1080p DVD upconversion), 7.1 PCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD HR and MA, Bitstream audio output via HDMI, HDMI 1.3 with CEC and the obligatory Profile 1.1.

Whoops. I thought HD NOW and his cohorts said that Samsung was only dual format now. I guess not.

Especially since that is the retail price. I'm sure it will be had online much cheaper.

After my experience with the BD-P1200 (total POS), I will not purchase another Samsung BD player.

Maybe this one will be better and have the issues worked out, but compared to other players on the market at the same time, the BD-P1200 had far more issues, and some of them are still to be resolved. I'm still waiting for a firmware update that will allow me to play POTC AWE.

This is a big improvement. Profile 1.1 and a sleek slim design. Without internal decoding, it sounds like I will need to sale my PS3 and get a new receiver and stand alone player. I hope Sony announces Internal DTS-HD Master Audio decoding.

Still, its a BD player only, which isnt a combo. I think thats what he meant.

The point still stands. A suspected HD DVD mole told us that they were only going to sell dual-format players, but Samsung themselves just told us that they're releasing a new Blu-ray only player.

Yes, he claimed they were going to only have combos. The BD-P1500 is Blu-ray only.

Meanwhile, the firm is also announcing its forthcoming combo player, and for those out there who have yet to successfully hunt one down or are just too frightened by the reports of lackluster audio performance, you may want to hit the pause button 'til May. The BD-UP5500 (pictured after the break) handles Blu-ray / HD DVD discs and supports 1080p24, but otherwise remains functionality identical to the P1500. The pain? $399 for the BD-P1500, $599 for the BD-UP5500.

I assume the MSRP may drop by the time this hits... but it still seems too pricy to me. We're still a long way from mass adoption at these prices. $299 would be a more reasonable benchmark 1.1 MSRP price.

"Like Samsung's third-gen player (the BD-P1400, released last fall), the BD-P1500 will carry an Ethernet port for firmware upgrades, but company says it is not certified BD Live, meaning it will not support web-enabled features included on certain disc's."

$399. and it still can't do everything that is advertised on the box of a disk. How many more years is it going to take for a fully functional Blu-ray player to come on the market under $199.?
