Panasonic to unveil BD player w/BD-Live and integrated SD card support

11:22AM PT - Now Kitajima is showing off the Viera link, demonstrating the oh so easy-to-use integrated SD card slot. Now he's playing back SD-based AVCHD video content as well.

11:26AM PT - Expect to see this feature in all 2008 Blu-ray players as well! Including the BD-Live player they're showing of this year at the booth.

Multiple models, including one with BD-Live (formerly known as Profile 2.0)? Cool!

ETA: Looks like it won't be announced until the BD keynote. They will also be announcing a HTiB with a new BD player.

Okay, a little bit of news on the HTiB. It's called the SC-BT1000, and it'll have a Bonus View (aka Profile 1.1) player included.

Panasonic just introduced their new Blu-ray player, the DMP-BD50. Like we heard at the press conference, BD-Live is getting rolled out across the lineup and this unit has all the other goodies you'd expect in the latest from Panasonic: Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, PIP functionality and the Viera-link functionality for control of multiple components through a single remote. Video processing goes through the Unipher processor, a combination of chroma and deinterlacing developed by Panasonic Hollywood Laboratories. Last but not least, this player gets treated to playback of SD-based media.

Yes. Ethernet connections are mandatory for BD-Live/Profile 2.0 players.

Confirmation on lossless decoding:

Looks like Panny is finally bringing some proper HDi to its newest Blu-ray player, the DMP-BD50. Dubbed BD-Live, the feature enables web-based interactive content that the unit's predecessor, the DMP-BD30, still lacked. Beyond all the dreamy 1080p goodness, audiophiles will rejoice at the integrated decoders for the lossless Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats. Like the DMP-BD30, its big brother supports Viera Link (Blu-ray's version of HDMI CEC) and sports an SD slot for 1080p playback of AVCHD video and images from SD cards.

There you have it folks: the first player from either format to do everything is a Blu-ray player!
