Marantz BD8002 Blu-ray Player Due This Spring

Marantz America will demonstrate its ultimate-quality BD8002 Blu-ray Disc Player (SRP: $2,099.99) at CES 2008. The Marantz® BD8002 Blu-ray DVD player features the acclaimed 10-bit Silicon Optix Realta chipset for the ultimate high-definition video resolution possible via HDMI 1.3 connection, as well as the finest possible audio performance, including Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio. The BD8002 will be showcased at the company's CES 2008 Open House at Mandalay Bay, and is scheduled for release in in the second quarter of 2008.

Secondary Video and Audio Decoders
In keeping with the guidelines mandated by the Blu-ray Association for BD-ROM version 1 Profile 1.1 players, the Marantz BD8002 incorporates a secondary audio and video decoder that allows for simultaneous playback of a secondary audio and video track which may be used for interactive audio and commentary and for picture-in-picture capability (respectively). Additional information (subtitles, audio streams, camera angles, trailers, games, etc.) can be downloaded from the Internet via computer and stored on a SD card that either player will accept. This content can be played with the original content of Blu-ray Discs.

This is great news for less than .00001% of the world's population. Real videophiles buy projectors at these players price ranges... and put them in home theaters with actual home theater seating.

I'm not sure how many they will sell, but there are more than a few fence sitters that swear by names such as Denon and Marantz. These aren't you J6P type of people, but they are the ones who think Tweeter is 'almost' a decent store, and Magnolia is garbage since BB touched them.

There are more than a few of these which will sell, but not to those who are freaking out over $300 players being to much money.

A few meaning... 1000 people? Seriously, Denon made one of THE best DVD players and how many did they sell throughout the entire product life cycle of the DVD. I don't know how many people are waiting on the fence to buy this... except for the few you know personally and through the AVS website maybe.

However, I can't see an audio/videophile paying 2K for a Blu-ray player that is not final i.e. not Profile 2.0.

Exciting news! I am glad that high-end players are now coming out after all. This is one of the huge advantages of blu-ray: They cover all bases, you can have cheap entrance level players, but you can also have players fit to integrate into an upper-end home cinema installation.

Perhaps said audio/videophile is interested in watching movies and not playing games on the Internet?

This is a machine for CI's to sell to clients who have already spent tens of thousands of dollars on their viewing experience. Another 2k isn't going to phase many of them one way or another.

Yes, that's exactly my position! I did spend that kind of money and I want the best possible viewing experience not to be able to download a ring-tone.
