Default NBC/Universal CES Website emphasizes Blu-ray?!

NBC/Uni has just set up their CES blog, and interestingly enough, it not only mentions Blu-ray, but clearly emphasizes it, including a picture of a BD-R but not HD DVD!

Here's the post:

http://nbcuatces.com/archives/2007/1...ntroducti.html

and the text:

Before products become common household names, they usually make their first appearance at CES. For example, HDTVs are everywhere these days, but the first HDTV made its debut a decade ago.

Here are some more notable products/services that debuted at CES:

* Videocassette Recorder (VCR), 1970
* Laserdisc Player, 1974
* Pong home console by Atari, 1975
* Camcorder, 1981
* Compact Disc Player, 1981
* Commodore 64, 1982
* Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), 1985
* Digital Audio Technology, 1990
* Compact Disc - Interactive, 1991
* Mini Disc, 1993
* Radio Data System, 1993
* Digital Satellite System, 1994
* Digital Versatile Disk (DVD), 1996
* High Definition Television (HDTV), 1998
* Hard-disc VCR (PVR), 1999
* Digital Audio Radio (DAR), 2000
* Microsoft Xbox, 2001
* Plasma TV, 2001
* Home Media Server, 2002
* HD Radio, 2003
* Blu-Ray DVD, 2003
* HDTV PVR, 2003
* HD Radio, 2004
* IP TV, 2005
* Blu-Ray and HD-DVD dual format player, 2007

How many of these products did you buy? I'm guilty of owning most of the stuff on this list. Loved the NES. Not sure I ever got my money's worth out of my Mini Disc recorder. And I'm kind of happy I never owned a VCR with physical switches and dials.

I wonder what announcement will be the talk of the show this year...
Note that the emphasis is all theirs. Yes, they bolded Blu-ray and included the picture, not me. I'll see if I can get a picture up after lunch. Absolutely hilarious!

Curiouser and curiouser...

That is kinda funny. Maybe all those Blu-ray ads on Universal HD are having some effect.

Something from a blog means something official?

Note that he also has LaserDisc in there. Is NBC/Universal going to start releasing TV shows on LaserDisc rather than DVD, now?

I'd say the poster made a mistake, unless Vivendi pushed someone to throw BD out there.

It's the official NBC/Universal blog, staffed by employees of Universal, so yes.

Try reading the post again. Take a deep breath, then come back.

Sticking Blu-ray in their would have been a mistake. Making sure that Blu-ray was emphasized in bold and having a picture of BD-R seems a little more than coincidence.

Not that it matters, I don't actually think Universal is going Blu. I just that it was, well...interesting that Kenny G was fairly soft in his recent interview, and combined with the constant Blu-ray commercials I'm seeing on Universal HD and NBC, and now this.

I think the bold lettering meant they had pictures accompanying the article. and wasnt it talking about things introduced at ces??I don't think hd dvd was introduced at any ces....I mean seriously... this reminds me of when you people said the blade runner commercial only showed blu ray and not hd dvd, and then low and behold I go to walmart and the picture they actually showed was of the 2 disc collecters addition.. LOL

Well maybe their big interest in the Dual format players are so that people that have the HD DVDs of their movies can get their new movies in Blu-ray disc if they made the switch. I mean one thing we do know is that when a studio switches sides their catalog will take time to switch.

Universal is Owned by GE and GE is a backer of HD DVD , universal will never be on Blu ray so long as HD DVD is alive .

Wrong way around. NBC/Universal is a backer of HD DVD. GE owns NBC/Universal, but is not responsible for the choice to back HD DVD. GE was actually grumbling about Universal's exclusive HD DVD support earlier this year.

Never say never. In 2005, people were saying Warner would never release on Blu-ray.

If you rearrange some of the words, it'll also tell you who's going to win the Presidential election this year.

Blogs, whether official or not, are still blogs

Well, considering the Warner news and Kenny G playing softball with Blu-ray in his latest interview and the Blu-ray adverts on Universal HD and the fact that this is a blog run by NBC (and thus the same as any other mouthpiece for announcements), I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your theory.

i wasnt a mistake. HD-DVD wasnt introduced at CES - Blu-ray was. I bolded the Blu-ray text to match the picture. i also bolded the NES text to match that picture. NBC Universal doesnt have a stake in Nintendo. I just liked the picture.

I posted another article yesterday on the nbcuatces.com blog that mentions Blu-ray and HD-DVD. there's an image i made in Photoshop that has a Blu-ray disc 20 pixels higher than a HD-DVD. This does not mean Blu-ray is better.

also i'm not an official company spokesperson. just a blogger.

Really? As of December 26, 2007, you were a manager at NBC:
Quote:
The NBC Agency has restructured its East Coast operations, promoting several execs and absorbing MSNBC's creative services department...Also adding stripes: Chris Meador has been named senior director, brand strategy; Skip Stuart is exec producer-senior director of special projects; Adam Kessler has been bumped to director of on-air promotion, East Coast; Jon Accarrino is manager of digital marketing; and Bill Platt has joined as senior writer-producer.

Either you're lying, or you're HD DVD supporter who's a sock puppet, which violates the forum rules.

Another lie? Both were introduced at CES 2006. Neither was announced at CES2006, but in February (Blu-ray) and August (HD DVD) of 2002.

BTW, folks, there's another post from NBC:

What is NOT better about Blu Ray? Better technology? Check. More Support? Check. More consumers with playable Blu Ray Devices? Check. More software and hardware sales? Check.

Just get on board. HD DVD doesn't do anyone any good anymore. Microsoft can feed everyone lies but in the end, Microsoft and Toshiba vs all was never going to happen. Seriously, Microsoft has enough monopoly problems going on. People hate on Sony, well there are people who hate Toshiba too. What are they to do? Blu Ray gives us choice.
