Default CES: HD DVD and Blu-ray press events (HD 2 hours long and BD 1 hour)

If thought it was kinda funny that the BDA press conference is a day after HD's and half as long. I'll take it as a sign they need a day to come up with spin to answer what HD announces at their press conference.

As far as the length of the conferences, I take it that they just don't need as much time as they don't have as much to announce. I mean if you don't have any Warner executives to speak at your conference and if you know you can't possibly spend the hour speaking the kind of BS they been throwing around for years because no one believes it anymore, what's left to talk about?

Oh this is going to be a very very sweet CES! HD DVD will never die.

What I find interesting is that with the extra hour, the HD DVD press event is twice as long as the BD event.

Seems they have a lot more to say and more time for the press to ask questions - possibly questions of more entities also (like a newly-red studio?)

That is a good question. I would like to know that answer to that, and without all the fanboyisms from either side please!

The length of a press conference means diddily squat. Worthy more of flamebait than intelligent discussion if you ask me.

Wasn't BD first last year. So maybe they just switch with who goes first?
And last I heard was that Warner will be at both press conferences.

The HD DVD Group needs that extra hour for all the spin and damage control they need to do in order to make it look like they're actually doing better than Blu-ray. All the BDA has to do is point to the Neilsen figures, which takes less time to do.

If it was that simple HD DVD would have already won.

And then all they need to do is post the sales figures from just one mediocre DVD and everyone can see how badly both formats combined actually sells.

BDA will start out with charts and graphs, talk about sales, slap each other on the back, tout their technological superiority and make HD DVD sound like the poor man's HDM of choice (sounds familiar to this forum actually).

AFAIK, the reason BDA only has one hour, is because they have enough CE companies in it, that many of them are getting their own press events, so that it made little sense to cram them into an extra hour.

Is what I hear anyways (And makes more sense than any other conspiracy theories IMO.)

Everything seems to indicate that Warner is going HD DVD exclusive:

- Warner to be present at the HD DVD CES conference
- HD DVD conference will last 2 hours, BDA only one
- CES Warner pages reference only HD DVD
- Warner is dumping all their Blu titles in the biggest BOGO ever
- Still no Batman, Matrix o other top Warner titles announced on BD
- Warner already signed exclusive deal with Microsoft for xbox Video Marketplace in Ireland
- Even with 2.7 million PS3, sales of Harry Potter are almost the same in both formats
- many insiders rumors suggest the switch is imminent or in discussion

Of course this is only speculation. Only one thing is for sure: January 6 will be one hell of a day...
