Default Front page....

Looking at the front page, I noticed the article about FOX making a deal with apple for digital distribution of movies. I guess all the eyes on Microsoft left Apple and a BDA studio to make a deal with noone noticing.

I don't get it? Microsoft has made deals with BDA studios for distribution of their movies, so what's the big deal?

Only problem I have is when Microsoft does it someone will say that they are using the format war to further their agenda. When someone else does it, then that is fine. It just seems bias to me, because everyone is trying to make money and not get left behind by advances in technology. So I agree with you. I know microsoft is not perfect, but they are just trying to make a dollar and a cent like everyone else. When they try to make money they are using HD DVD to keep their intrest but everyone else is fine.

I am just confused about it.

P.S. I won't continue on this path and keep the thread going where it is supposed to. Sorry to get side tracked.

Fox already agreed to movie rentals on Xbox Live.

This is just another avenue.

Get used to it folks, movie rentals are moving out of B&M stores and mail and into your home directly.

and that is why imo hd will NEVER come close to the success of dvd because of all the increased competition. It's not rocket science.
but yeah, did you notice this CES preview article?

SACD and DVD-A didn't die because of a format war. They died because of digital music downloads/MP3s!

Apple with itunes has the most potential at being succesful with digital downloads of movies. Many use it the service for their ipods, coupled with imac's and mac pro's being HD Display capable, it will require a overhaul of their system but already being in the business, they should have an easier acceptance since their are millions of ipod users out there. Microsoft will have to utilize their xbox platform to do it which doesn't have built in wifi unless they release a 4th or 5th version of their game system.

Amen.

They died because no one sat @ home listening to high quality music. People wanted portability with music, they wanted it in their cars, their bus rides, train rides, etc.

Movies are a totally different animal.

Yeah, a different animal. Totally different. Thats why itunes almost single handedly destroyed the CD.

Ardakin is correct. If HDM doesnt take off big and soon, chatter is mounting in the industry and in the press that the formats may never break out of their niched shells.

Film content downloads is the next mother lode in entertainment. With soon a 300 million install base of the ipod, iphone, itouch... Fox's deal with Apple is major news to rental retailers that are closing their doors here in LA.. Its more than rumor that give Blockbuster another year before itself tanks.

Fact is Apple's players are selling at a clip of 20-30 million units a quarter today, today a massive revenue stream even the 500,000 units of the PS3 cant come within a spec of. HDM has to take off fast and soon to survive.

You are aware that Fox has been on XBL for about a year now?

I have an HD-A20 and a PS3 but leaned red because the extras did count. Bye Bye HD, you gave it your best, that's all we could ask. Sony, finish your damn product already!

The Numbers: 900+ DVDs (rapidly declining), 34 HD-DVDs (+1 on order, + 5 free), 17 BDs (+2 on order). Last movie: Close Encounters.

There is some nice stuff there.

This is the year I get something sleek for my new bedroom Aquos (it's only 32inches, but nice) it has a PC input, as well as HDMI so it is asking for an HPTC. There is some stuff there that bodes well for me getting a nice one.

It has to look great, and be small.

AppleTV looks like it is still not there. And I don't want an xbox or Ps3 in the bedroom.

Itunes had little or nothing to do with the cd's down turn. Free music from the likes of napster irc kaaza(sp) and others coupled with over priced crappy music and more forms of entertainment had a lot more to do with it..

People should also be aware that the format war doesn't mean crap regarding other business ventures. Companies are companies and business is business.
