Default Bandai supports HD DVD with 3 Movies 1 Series

I been a lurker for about 2 weeks now and finally decided to post (My 1st) since this was completely missed.
From Anime on DVD as announced at CES:

Bandai Visual, Microsoft and Memory-Tech Agree to Collaborate on the Development of HD DVD Authoring Technology for the Release of “Freedom” (a New Anime Title), “Royal Space Force—The Wings of Honneamise”, “Patlabor The Movie” and “Patlabor 2 The Movie".

This is actually pretty big I think (As an Anime fan).

Anime fans have a small niche in the market, but it is a strong one. Anime could also be a greater driving force in Japan.

They may be a niche, but they are certainly a devoted fan base. I love some Japanime movies, but the devotion by some of these fans is tremendous and the money I'm sure is in the millions (I have some friends that spend enormous amounts of money to collect certain movies). This just could be a plus for HD-DVD.

OOH YES!!!

Anime in HD! I've been waiting for so long!

I don't really like those movies but if other better titles come out I'll be so happy. Hope other anime companies jump on board.

And I hope the price isn't outrageous. anime is usually overpriced.

Anime fans generally are gaming fans too. Good market to go after for sales on consoles.

Microsoft announced the collaboration back in November. Bandai Visual didn't offer up any title names until CES. Here's Microsoft's press release on that: http://labs.microsoft.com/japan/pres...aspx?addid=839

There is already an anime title on HD DVD now though. Warner put out Gonzo's Brave Story on HD DVD last month in Japan. Great transfer. I wish I had more to import. I'm definitely looking forward to some Bandai Visual Titles. (Jin-Roh please!!)

That is a plus for HD DVD. Bandai is a supporter of BD but they haven't announced any releases on that format.

HELL YEAH!

Ghost in the Shell (and the sequel wasn't too bad either) is one my favorites! I bought the two-disc SE and looks incredible. I'd love to buy that on HD-DVD. No doubt.

THe 1st movie for Ghost in the Shell is up to Manga Ent. They actually were on the production commitee and have Distro Rights in NA and EU (Don't know other areas) But Japan's distro would be Bandai Visual. The second movie would depend on the contract the SD DVD is released by Dreamworks so it's a Toss up. I Think Bandai Visual (JP) Might have a clause like for Renegotiation of new Medias Like many had to deal with once SD DVDs came out. The TV Series' of Ghost in the Shell would be Bandai and I would Double dip Both Seasons in HD as the SD DVD Visuals and DTS track on those were Stunning.

great title but GOD DAMN'T I WANT NEON GENESIS EVANGELION!

that and the classic miyazaki movies.

-My Neighbor Totoro
-Spirited Away
-Howl's Moving Castle

all classics, but anime on dvd won't be complete until we get Neon Genesis Evangelion and The End of Evangelion...the best TV series and movie ever made, and yes that means ever for everything.

i would like Ghost in the shell, its sequel and also akira, very classic.

A visual and technical masterpiece that will certainly show off just how far anime has come since its predecessor, Ghost in the Shell: Innocence unfortunately is a very formulaic story that's so highly infused with religious and philosophical discourses that they seemingly forgot to put in dialogue for much of the plot. While the US DVD release was probably one of the best looking anime releases out for that format, the film reaches a whole new level here. Its animation style and approach is quite different from that of Brave Story that we saw recently but this one again shows that anime can look amazing here. Buena Vista Japan did a solid job with the presentation of this film and has provided materials from a multi-disc DVD edition on a single dual-layered disc that is quite simply the reference version of this film.
  • Japanese LPCM 7.1
  • Japanese DD 6.1EX
  • Japanese DTS-ES 6.1

  • Audio Commentary
  • Sights & Scenes of Innocence (38 minutes)
