Personally I have no problem losing PIP and IME/BDJ features if my receiver has better DTS-MA decoding than my player does. I'll just watch the movie with the receiver taking care of the decoding duties and then at another time when I want to see the interactive features I'll let the player do the decoding.
Easy peasey lemon squeezy.

So humor me for a second here... how could any receiver/player do a better job of decompressing a lossless bitstream than any other?

Far too many variables. Synching issues, decompression verification, interference from other lines along the way.
You'd be amazed how few people actually tidy up their wires. You want specifically to try and keep your power cords all in one area away from interconnects and speaker wires. HDMI is less prone to interference than an analog signal in a coaxial, RCA or optical wire.

The DA9100ES has been around for a bit. I did a search on it and I get stuff from last September. Some say it is 9.1 and others 7.1, no mention of advanced audio at all. I am thinking that this isnt the one I am looking for unless it was never been released and has been reworked consideralbly. I want 3 or 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs with full audio support and passthough.


Also rummored to be $ 6,100. I am looking to spend about $ 1,000-1,500.

I am also looking for between 1,000-1500 - I would Desired Damen, Onkyo or Sony likely - any idea on price for Onkyo prototype final version.

I thought the PC world was bad about obsolescence.

HDMI was just out and now its at 1.3. How in the world can consumers keep up with this.
