Default Marantz BD 8002 v1.1 announced at Cedia for Q1 2008

See link here

"Marantz BD8002 Blu-ray Disc Player
by J. Walker Clarke, Jr. — last modified September 07, 2007 09:12

Marantz BD8002

At CEDIA 2007, Marantz is debuting its first BD-ROM Profile 1 version 1.1 Blu-ray Disc Player. The Marantz BD8002 Blu-ray DVD player features the acclaimed 10-bit Silicon Optix Realta chipset for the ultimate high-definition video resolution possible via HDMITM connection, as well as the finest possible audio performance, including high-definition audio decoding and DDSC-HD audio output.

The Marantz BD8002 is scheduled for delivery in the 1st Qtr. of 2008 and will carry a MSRP of$2099.99."

So I can already hear all kinds of people bitching about the price.

Personally I am waiting to hear more about the AVR SR 8002/7002 to see if they can compete with new Pioneer Elite 92/94. All of them include DTS-MA decoders so we can enjoy all of those Fox Discs.

Love Marantz, but of course, this price is ridiculous. No I'm not saying it's probably not a great player but still. Maybe if I win the lottery!

After Pioneer's announcement of their new flagship receiver at around $7,000 (yes, 7K) who cares about the price of a $2,000 BD player...

Considering the company $2000 isn't very surprising. Marantz has always been an expensive higher end company.

I would never pay $2000 for a player but for those few that can it is just another option.

Now if the BDA would just offer a 1.1 player under $500 for the other 95% of us that can't afford $2,000 I would be happy.

wouldn't we all. Look any year now. btw, the idea that Blu-Ray players are going to be $300 by X-mas is a joke imo. I don't think it's going to happen. maybe 1.

I'm assuming this thing will decode TrueHD and DTS-MA. The link was pretty vague.

Anybody hear anything about a BD player or surround sound receiver that will decode TrueHD and DTS-MA from Rotel?

From Rotel no, but from Marantz, Denon, Onkyo and Pioneer, yes.

Denon and Marantz are related, and share the same ownership group (D&M Holdings). This player is likely related to the Denon unit, there has been some crossover in the past between the brands. This is a similar situation to the Onkyo/Integra players.

Correct, but my understanding is that the entities develop products separately and independently. It seems logical they would share some of the technology however.

It does appear to be the same player as the Denon: http://wesleytech.com/marantz-displa...ay-player/362/
