Default Pioneer Unveils New Elite Blu-ray Player for October

Quote:
The parade of next-gen hardware announcements from CEDIA continues with news of a new Blu-ray player from Pioneer.

Dubbed the Elite BDP-95FD, this third Blu-ray player from Pioneer picks up where the BDP-94HD (released last spring) left off, featuring 1080p video at a rate of 24 frames per second.

In a first for Pioneer, the new deck will feature HDMI version 1.3 output, enabling support of all high-resolution audio formats.

Also new to the BDP-95FD is HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (CEC), which is designed to simplify integration of operation with other HDMI-CEC-enabled high-definition theater components.

Pioneer says the Elite BDP-95FD will carry a $1,000 suggested retail price, and is due on store shelves this October.

Is this also a profile 1.0 player?

At least this one looks strong on the audio side, and the home networking stuff sounds pretty cool. Wonder if they'll add Profile 2 networking capabilities later?

Angry No affordbale players so far...

All expensive, inconsistant in profiles, and where is the internal DTS-HD Master Audio decoding?

Im starting to get really fed up with Blu Ray.

What is wrong with the Blu-Ray group. The price of the player are way too much. How will the familys buy them? If they keep this up(and I hope they do) they will lose the holiday season.

If it would have been profile 1.1 or 2.0 this would have been plastered all over the place. But, sadly, another expensive and already obsolete Blu-ray player.

HD DVD is what you really want.

This is why the DVD Forum didn't sign on to Blu-ray. They thought it was completely unready and half-baked. Blu-sky if you will. That was back in 2004. Here we are in 2007 and it's still not ready. Profile 1.0? More like 0.7. Maybe next year.

This is not for the mainstream. Pioneer Elite products are high end for serious home cinema fans.

That said, that it doesn't support BD 1.1 is pretty disappointing. I would have expected more from Pioneer.

Go read a little history on this forum plz...

It has been discussed alot early this year how Toshiba gamed the HD DVD forum after HD DVD was rejected by having another vote when some of the members were absent (kind of like how Pluto lost its status as a planet.)

Also Toshiba refused to accept a last minute unification deal that would use HD DVD interactivity features with the Blu-ray physical layer.

And for good reason. Blu-ray discs is irreparable once they scratch (and yes they scratch despite a resistant coating). Bad fatal flaw in their physical design.

Hopefully at some point there will be an ELITE player worth buying.

Is there any proof of this? Actual evidence of discs being scratched beyond repair by real users during normal everyday handling?

I've read reports of people trying to scratch them on purpose, but don't recall reading anything from someone who has a disc that's been ruined in normal use.

Genuine question (coming from someone who got another ruined DVD rattler in the post this morning!)
