I'm feeling dizzy from all these blu spins...

there goes the cheap advantage argument because now that there is one new expensive HD DVD player, no one is allowed to buy or even look at the 200$ player

seriously, BD fans, you have to realize that cheap HD DVD players are good for you too. it's the only thing that might force BD CE companies to lower their prices in the near future (otherwise, it will be a long time before that happens)
also, you can buy a 200$ player and you won't miss out on HD DVD exlusive titles. that's a good thing if you enjoy watching movies in HD, this is why we're here, right?
it's just funny to hear people argue against cheaper players

It's not a spin when I've read countless fanboy posts touting HD DVD prices as the advantage, taking shots at Blu-ray for their high prices. And then they announce this player (not to mention the HD-AX2 and A-35 have been priced up there with current BD players). Just seems hypocritical. I think the price argument will be completely irrelevant by years end.

Didn't you get the memo? All other HD DVD players are being cancelled and the production lines scrapped. The $1100 Integra will be the only HD DVD player available henceforth.

Seriously though, its sad that people would be so blinded by hatred of a MOVIE FORMAT that they lose touch with reality. How someone can even begin to attempt arguing that HD DVD no longer has a price advantage because there is also an expensive model in ADDITION to the LOW COST models simply baffles.

Its like saying Toyota has abondoned the entry level car market because they offer 60K Lexus models. Uh.. hello, Corolla?

I don't understand your comment at all.

Are you trying to suggest that the cheap HD DVD players will go away, just because this high end player is coming out?

I think what he is trying to say is that a majority of HD DVD owners would like to adopt the Blu-ray format but the players are just to expensive (I'm one of them). And the fact that HD DVD is releasing a HD DVD player that is over a 1000 bucks doesn't give Blu-ray companies any incentive to lower the prices of their players.

HD DVD has 2 sub $199 Chinese players coming out in a couple months, they haven't had an ultra "high end" player as of yet. Blu-ray hasn't had much incentive lowering their prices with HD DVD players that cost half as much as BR. What makes anyone think they'll start now?

If you are still featuring a turntable, 8-track, reel-to-reel and a collection of 78's, then you can call me a liar. If not, recognize the fact that no matter what happens between blu-ray and hd-dvd, another sharper and clearer and sweeter format is waiting in the wings. You might as well enjoy these formats while you're all still alive instead of fighting a so called format war. Tomorrow is not promised so don't let these moments slip away. Twenty years from now the audio will be so good only a dog will be able to hear it and the video so sharp with so many pixels only a golden eagle will be able to take advantage of the clarity. The current format war only fuels and sells each format. None of the companies that you have planned a demise for are going away. They will just come up with a better mouse trap.

i love 8 track tapes... high fidelity analog audio... makes classic rock sound more classic, makes funk sound more funky, makes old country sound more rustic. 8 track... the look and sound of retro.

i won't be buying this player... i'll leave that to the people with a lot of money that are bored. I'll be debating on an hd-a3 or one of the chineese players this winter for my vacation house's hdtv. it really sucks lugging my xbox 360 and hd dvd player with me whenever i go up there to go skiing or fishing. there is absolutly nothing to do up there at night except to drink whiskey and watch movies... i need a quality hd dvd product at a good price.

i hope the cheap players will run smooth. i remember when apex video started making cheap dvd players... so choppy.

i might even gofor the samsung dual format player for there if i get bd and hd dvd in one player.

This player shuts up the BluFanBoys since they always seem to claim that 'you get what you pay for' with HiDef... Now they can comfortably jump into being neutral by spending about what they spent on their Blu-Ray player on a HD DVD player...

So why do people complain when Pioneer Elite's player is $1000 and Denon's is $2000 and Marantz's is $2000 and Sony's is $500 and Philips' is $500 and Samsung's is $500 and Panasonic's is $500. Surely, these companies are all a step above Venturer. And those priced at the level of Toshiba are on the level of Toshiba.

Alpine is also making an HD-DVD player. I want one really bad. I have always had Alppine amps and Head units in my whips. Gladiator is also HD-DVD exclusive!

I'll pass on the expensive player. I'm happy with my xbox 360 HD-DVD add on for probably the next few months. Or until I set up my new home theater. Also waiting for the PS3 to have DTS-HD MA capabilities, then I'll buy my new Denon or Onkyo receiver and then I'll buy a standalone HD-DVD player probably a 4th generation Toshiba...the A-45, if that's what they'll call it.
