The Brave Little Toaster (1987)

Hyperion/Disney would make me the happiest person on the face of the earth in bringing this 80's masterpiece to BD.

The DVD is meh.... I'd like to see some real worthwhile extras. AVC, 5.1 (or 7.1 ) Lossless surround, a full-fledged remaster (the transfer/master on the current DVD is very disappointing) would all be welcomed.

I really would like to see a special edition that embraces this brilliant film (instead of being little more than a commercial for the craptastic sequels). Newly produced [HD] extras and a PiP commentary track would be wonderful.

oooh vacuum. so grumpy, but deep down a heart of gold. did toaster sound a bit like rocky to anyone else.

Well, it's very possible that you saw this later than '87.

The film finished production in 1986 and failed to find a distributor. It isn't technically a Disney film - it was produced by Hyperion Pictures, a small independent company who failed to find anyone that wanted the movie. BLT, having failed to find a distribution deal, premiered at Sundance...

The film was a smash hit at the Sundance Film Festival, but failed to find a distributor. It was aired on the Disney Channel in 1987, then appeared in the Park City Film Festival in 1988, before finally having a brief theatrical release at New York's Film Forum in May 1989, but still failed to find a distributor. It was actually shown in parts at various theaters as a serial from week to week, and in 1991, it was distributed on video. In October 2003, it finally had a DVD release alongside its two sequels.
