Default is seinfeld on blu ray possible?

i know most of the tv shows from the 90's are not possible but i recently saw on the back of dvd sets that the show was remastered in high definition so i was wondering if it was possible for this show?

Nope. That show was shot on videotape just like everything else on TV in that era.

You sure about that? I could of swore reading how high-def transfer have already been created for Seinfeld. I'm thinking I read that from some insider thread from Blu-ray.com maybe at one point.

You are correct. It's listed even on the back of the DVD sets.

However, I'd like to state that I have no interest for replacing my sets. It's not something that I call "HD worthy". It's a very basic looking show, and it would have to have a shit ton of awesome new things for it to enter my "re dip" radar.

singhcr - Way off-base. These were shot on film not standard def videotape and it's pretty easy to tell the difference between a show that looks like this and, say, The Cosby Show or Family Ties. You can even find this show on TV in syndication on certain networks with the HD transfers. They look good. I just think it would be too cost-prohibitive for most people to ever buy on BD.

And, just for argument's sake, if "Hogan's Heroes" can look great in HD (see the HDNet channel), I'm sure practically ANYTHING would look good scanned and played in HD.

Despite what you think, some tv shows will not even benefit as much as Hogan's Heroes does. As Hogan's Heroe's was indeed shot with film. Which has plenty of resolution for a high-definition transfer.

Many shows in the 80's and 90's were recorded with 480i video cameras. As it was more cost effective than the traditional use of film.

I'm pretty sure it was shot on film so yes a blu ray release would look great.

The show was shot on film, Paidgeek the Sony Pictures insider said that the Seinfeld set was under consideration for a BD release. Unfortunately this was a year ago, but still no announcements...

I am sure most of the "major" TV shows of the past are up for consideration, but the time\money that it would take to bring all 9 seasons to Blu-ray at this time would probably prevent them from doing it "soon". Even if there are HD transfers we dont know what "HD" means to the studio.....This show was shot on Film, so there is a possibility that will come out on Blu-ray, I just dont think it will be any time soon.

Seinfeld was shot on film and video. I think the first 5 series were on video and the remaining were shot on film. They mention it on one of the extras on the big boxset that was release a couple of years ago. While I dont see it happening for a HD transfer, I wouldnt mind seeing it released in SD on Bluray so we could fit a whole season on 1 or 2 discs, so you dont have to swap the discs all the time to watch the best epsiodes.

It says remastered in HD on all the seasons. It was shot on film but edited on video so they had to reedit for these masters. I only fear Sony will crop'n'chop the Bluray instead leaving 4x3.
