Default I am starting to like my PS3!!!

Ok.....I am not a gamer......haven't played computer based games since the mid 80s..........but I bought a 80g PS3 about 2 weeks after Warner announced they were going exclusive with Bluray.

Actually, I bought the PS3 as a bluray player, but sold the idea to my wife as a games system for my two daughters (age 9 and 12). .....I figured I could kill two birds with one stone. Motorstorm came the 80gig unit...and the girls and I had a ball playing it.

Then I slowly picked up a few game titles for the girls.....and a couple for myself.....Rainbow Vegas and Uncharted being my favorites. Last week for my daughters 12th birthday we gave her SingStar....she had a sleepover.....and my den was filled with kids singing and crooning into the mikes....it was a friggin riot....my wife has become a SINGSTAR junky!!!! (does anyone know if the PS2 Singstar 80s disc will work ok with my PS3? My wife REALLY wants more 80s songs!!!!!!)

Anyway....I really appreciate that I can use the PS3 for a few different purposes......I have never played on a Wii or XBox 360....so I can't compare it to them.....but clearly it is head and shoulders above playing doom on a 486 computer. I like that it has a wifi connection for updates. Now if only there was a way to save games so every time I get killed I don't have to start over from the checkpoint????????????

Haha, the Playstation brand was my least favorite and is now my very favorite with the Playstation 3. I had a Playstation 2 since launch, and to this day I've probably played it 20 times, not that fun. The PS3 has turned it all around for me though, I think it's just the overall presentation of the console, organized, video and Blu-ray support, it's the ultimate media center for me.

Yeah, the PS3 is a pretty solid system.

I own the 3 game consoles from this generation (Wii, 360, PS3) and tend to push people toward the 80gb PS3 even though I game on my 360 more. The reason being? It does have a bit of a broader spectrum of games for casual gamers and the free online play for those that may play online once in a while but don't on a regular basis. Plus the PS2 was a fantastic system and that is a HUGE back library in its own right.

The Wii has its strength in party gaming, the 360 is still stronger than the PS3 (IMO of course) overall in terms of current games, but the PS3 has a nice medium and is a pretty solid media center (if only it supported x264/mkv, PAL DVDs, and Netflix). Now if only they resolved that stupid GH3 Guitar on Rock Band thing... (Rock Band, btw, expensive as it may be, is worth every penny and then some.)

With that said, whose leg do you have to hump to get some PS3 Scrabble

Guitar Hero was a gift to the girls for Easter.....they really like it.....but Singstar seems to be the favorite. I think all kids love to sing......it is funny to watch my wife battle it out with the tweens for airtime.........if I ever get some 80s tunes the kids will never get any play time on Singstar!!!!

I plan on picking up MGS4 and Call of Duty 4 whenever I can find them used.....I hate paying $60.00 plus taxes for a game for myself....I don't mind spending it on the kids games....because I know they will play them......for myself I might get a couple of hours in a week if I am really lucky.

I'm the same way, and I don't generally pay $60 for a game unless I have to have it at that moment (which is rare.) I usually use ebay or pick titles up from the Gamefly.com Store (they're used but are always in pristine shape, better than buying new games from EB/Gamestop because they actually inspect theirs.) The scratch guard keeps the mind at ease.

You need to get Rock Band. If your kids like Guitar Hero and your wife loves singing, you really, REALLY need to get Rock Band.

Oh, by the way, Karaoke Revolution: American Idol Edition on the PS3 also has 80's tunes to sing, but they're mostly covers, if that matters.

You are going to be completelly overwhelmed with regards to the storyline on MGS4. It is required to play the previous games in the series to understand what is going on. Just keep that in mind while you are playing it. Otherwise it is absolutely an amazing experience.

I've got to agree with the OP on this one. I haven't played a video game seriously since the original NES days. I finally broke down and got a PS3 for Father's Day at WM, and it's very impressive. The only games I've played so far are demos from the PS store, but NASCAR 09 is outstanding.

I agree with the game prices though. No way I'm forking out $60 for a game (other than GH or Rock Band). I'll get an older Madden, baseball or golf game and save the money, or get Burnout Paradise and MotorStorm much more reasonable at GameStop.

lol I personally find statements like that funny to read. This is because its standard practice for me to spend the money on the best version of games available. For example, I had no problem spending $130 on the Halo 3 Legendary Edition and over $100 for the MGS4 Limited Edition.

I picked up my PS3 last week for the 80GB MGS4 bundle. Since MGS4 is inarguably the best videogame ever made, it should come as no surprise that I'm pleased with my PS3 so far. It played back a test Blu-ray movie without any problems either. I also used it to play some videos and music back. It's a shame that PS3 doesn't work with .mkv format files though, as many of my anime fansubs are in that format.

GTA and Call of Duty 4 are my only game purchases, but having a PS1, 2 and now 3, I guess I'm a little biased
