Unhappy Problems with BD-Live on PS3?

I was just wondering if anyone else is having issues with BD-Live content on their PS3?

I have the latest firmware, have the online feature option turned on under the BD settings, and have the PS3 connected via wireless to my home network.

I just bought the Men In Black BluRay, and when I try to activate the "BD-Live" option in the extras, I see the wireless light flicker for a while, then I get either a "Make sure your player is connected to the internet" error or a "There was a problem downloading your update" error.

Same thing happens when I try the "BD-Live" menu option on the Hancock Preview Disc.

And, before anyone blames my wireless connection, I have had no problems with the wireless since I got the PS3, and have played 30+ hours of Warhawk without a single disconnect due to my wireless connection.

It's not like there are any settings to play with - just the one option that either allows BD content to access the internet or prompts you when access is needed. I have tried both settings and get the same results.

I have also made sure that I don't have any downloads active on the PS3, and have tried both logged into and out of PSN.

Any ideas, anyone?

For what it's worth, I put Men In Black in my player just now after reading your post and it's working fine for me. Right now I'm downloading the Persepolis HD trailer.

It sounds like you have everything configured correctly. Have you tried restarting the system and seeing if that helps things?

Yes, I've been trying this everyday since I got the Men in Black, same results every time.

I've only tried it with 2 discs so far on my PS3 with no problems. Both Sunshine and Untraceable worked fine.

Yeah, I'm having the same issue. I recently picked up John Mayer - Where the Light Is: Live in Los Angeles on Blu-ray, and it advertises BD-Live functionality in the way of a 57 MB downloadable backstage performance of "Belief". But every time I try to access it through the Bonus Features menu on the disc, nothing happens for about 20 seconds, and then a message pops up saying this:

That's a pile of crap, since the green wireless light is on (i.e., I'm on a wireless router), and I have zero problems playing PS3 games online or accessing the PlayStation Store, etc.

I called Sony support earlier this evening, and the rep I talked to apparently had no idea what BD-Live even was. He asked me to disable the PS3's media server connection to see if that would change anything, but it didn't, and then he told me that the problem was that the download requires some sort of media player, which the PS3 "does not support at this time." Again, that's crap; as far as I understand, it's (presumably) supposed to download a video of the performance to my PS3's hard drive. Unfortunately, I don't own any other Blu-ray Discs with BD-Live, so I can't test out other BDs.

The John Mayer BD works fine on my PS3. It downloaded pretty quickly even.

Damn it. Well, I have no way of trying it by hardwiring my PS3 to my router, unfortunately — so if my wireless connection is the issue, I guess I'm screwed.

Get a wireless bridge. This should allow you to hook the PS3 to it hardwire and let the bridge do the talking. I have a 5 port one for my whole entertainment center and it works flawlessly.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'll look into it.

Tough to say. I have MIB and the Hancock preview disc as well, but I have had some problems with downloading BD content on those before. It could go okay, or it might give me the same error messages that you get, but in my opinion the PSN has never been all that great. I don't blame my Internet; I blame the BD servers or perhaps the PSN servers. Keep trying. That's about all I can offer at this point.

Oh, mind you, people were having lots of problems with wireless connections at the beginning (myself included), so here are some server numbers for you to try if you think that the PSN server could be the problem:

SETTINGS > NETWORK SETTINGS > INERNET CONNECTION SETTINGS > WIRED CONNECTION OR WIRELESS >

WIRED CONNECTION > CUSTOM > MANUAL SETTINGS > AUTO DETECT > AUTOMATIC > DO NOT SET > MANUAL ( DNS1 : 208.67.222.222 , DNS2 : 208.67.220.220 ) > AUTO > DO NOT USE > ENABLE > X > X

WIRELESS > ENTER MANUALLY > ( ENTER SSID OR CONTINUE ) > ( CHOOSE SECURITY OR CONTINUE ) > CUSTOM > AUTO > DO NOT SET > MANUAL ( DNS1 : 208.67.222.222 , DNS2 : 208.67.220.220 ) > AUTO > DO NOT USE > ENABLE > X > X

I'll be curious to see how things like group online viewing go once discs that have the feature like The Incredible Hulk come out.

Weird, I'm having issues as well. Prom Night says 'Not Connected' when I click BD-Live. Can anyone check out that title if it works for them?

It seems like the problem might be with the router configuration.

"You must UNBLOCK Anonymous internet requests in you router for bdlive to work. Worked for me!!"

My Transformers Blu-Ray disc takes forever to load up when I have internet access allowed on my PS3. I've read others that have had similar problems. Just wanted to let anyone know that they're not alone if they're having similar issues.

I did another tip recommended to see if it works (without trying the router tip) and it worked for me. Basically turn ON the option to CONFIRM BD-LIVE connections instead of ALLOW BD-LIVE connection in the BD configuration menu.

It might also be because the servers were overloaded the first night the movie is out. I was able to download the update and see the Transformers stats. It didn't work yesterday (first day out) but worked fine tonight.
