Default Hi everyone...

O.K it's like this and sorry if this has already been answered. I have a PS3 and Amoi LCD High def tv.The tv supports 1080P;so my question is this why is it that games such as GT5 Prologue that support 1080p are presented as such; but Blu ray movies i.e Die Hard 4.0 which support 1080p are for some reason downscaled and presented in the next resolution setting which is 1080i or 720p???I think my display settings on the PS3 are correct so what is happening here ? By the way video connection is via component cable.any help will be greatly appreciated,Thanx!

Blu-ray at 1080p is only supported through HDMI whereas games can run at 1080p through component. 1080p over component is analog and Hollywood is very strict on not allowing analog upconversion of DVD's or analog 1080p playback for high def. They're afraid that people will make copies.

Default thanx for that..

one last thing if I may ,is there on a 32 inch LCD TV a considerable difference between 1080i and 1080p i am referring to watching Blu Ray movies? If so is there a component to VGA cable on the market that will enable me to watch blu ray movies in 1080p or are we arriving at the same senario as with the component being that it is also an analogue connection?Thanx I don't have an HDMI connection on my tv,is this such a bad thing?

Nope, at 32 inches there is no difference, particularly when you are dealing with a 1080p source. Now, if you are comparing 1080i Blu-ray with 1080i broadcasts on TV, there's a noticeable difference b/c the Blu-ray isn't anywhere near as compressed as the TV broadcast and in most cases the source is 1080p with a very high bitrate. On a 32 inch TV though, there's not a noticeable difference if the source material is the same. I've heard some people say that there's no difference between the two on TV's smaller than 50 inches, but I have noticed a difference between 1080i and de-interlaced 1080p on my 46 inch 1080p TV with my HD DVD player (which only outputs at 1080i). I was running it through component and I could see some compression artifacts every once and a while. So I got an HDMI cable just to see if it would look better and sure enough it looks pretty much the same as my PS3 running through HDMI. They both look excellent and I do think there is a difference between 1080i through component on a 46 inch TV vs. 1080i through HDMI being deinterlaced to 1080p on the same TV. But with yours, I would not sweat it if I were you.

No prob man. I've been on here asking questions lately too because I just got a PS3 and have had some issues with audio as well as the Internet features on the console. These forums are really good for getting help with that kind of stuff. One area I've had personal experience with is component vs. HDMI since I previously had a 23 inch NEC monitor that only had component high def inputs on it. Glad I was able to pass some knowledge on these quirky high def issues to you.

Default thanx..

for your replies.Well my tv is apparently 1080p when i go into PS3 display settings and choose the1080p setting my tv accepts the signal and then the PS3 states that the display is running at 1080p so from that i believe it is a 1080p tv.The make is AMOI it is a Chinese/Danish company and it doesnt have a HDMI input ??? Go figure ,anyway it does have 2 component ,2 S-video and 2 composite and 1 vga and thats about it,regarding buying a new one, no can do at the moment this one is only about a year old , and cost quite abit over here in sunny Israel,so it has to stay for the time being.Apart from the HDMI issue ,it is an excellent tv ,great picture had it calibrated , looks just fine, thanx and bye for now
