Default Blu-Ray Profile 1.1 support comes tomorrow

From PS3 Fanboy, Sony in the UK has stated that the firmware 2.10 update getting released tomorrow (Dec. 18th) will include Divx and Profile 1.1 support. Other features include WMV VC-1 playback support, "Type 3 music bitmapping" (???), and a Voice Changer. (Which is funny cause MS abandoned that feature after no one liked it.) Sony America has not confirmed this date yet.

firmware 3.10, you mean 2.10 correct? I think it will arrive on Thursday the 20th here in the US. I would be happy if it showed up tomorrow though

What about DTS-HD master Audio decoding? More and more people are starting to realize that they are missing out on some ridiculous quality audio on those Fox discs and now, on New Line Cinema discs.

The US Playstation site for v2.10 does not mention this at all.

supra2jzgte, I am with you. I heard it was sometime early next year. I think the DTS-HD MA is more important then getting the picture and picture. The true HD finanics out there including myself love our HD audio. Sony please hurry up we are getting over anxious out here.

here here...

DTS-HD is WAY more important than 1.1...

and Sony promised us this before christmas...

guess they are too worried about their image (PIP) to make good on a promise...

I thought someone looked into the possibility of DTS-MA HD on the PS3 via firmware upgrade, and found that due to a chip in the PS3, that it's not possible? I remember reading that somewhere on here.

Oh well, either way I'm psyched about 1.1

It may not be able to bitstream it, but the original promise was to have it decoded internally and sent PCM... this is the promise I want them to keep...

I read that article and according to it, the HDMI repeater chip inside the PS3 cannot output a DTS-HD MA Bitstream. That was according to that article, but a majority of users if not 100% just want internal decoding and output as LPCM via HDMI.

That doesn't make sense to me (not that you or the article are wrong). I don't understand why it wouldn't be able to output the dts-HD bitstream with an HDMI 1.3 connection (meaning the repeater chip presumably should have to support all 1.3 functions, including high bitrate audio).

At any rate, it will be irrelevant if the PS3 will internally decode dts-HD, although it would certainly be nice to have both abilities for those of us with HDMI 1.3 receivers.

I'm with you guys though; I consider dts-HD decoding/HBA more important that "true" PiP. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy the feature on HD DVD, but I don't use it all that much. Sony really should include the audio upgrade with the Profile 1.1 upgrade. Perhaps the Profile upgrade is actually the reason for the delay, as I've been hearing dts-HD/HBA firmware update rumors for months.

well the list that was up earlier did not mention any audio decoding... so I doubt it'll be on this update...

I'm actually starting to believe that Sony do have some problems with the PS3 and DTS. Maybe it won't be powerful enough for Profile 1.1 and DTS MA at the same time.

If PS3 should be the flagship that Sony wants it to be, they should have been out with the DTS MA decoding already.

A few months ago, one of the Sony programmers said that there was so much they wanted to do, but couldn't add yet because they had to preserve power for later applications. This would be Profile 1.1, and later Profile 2.0.

The PS3 isn't the best picture player anymore, and they're far from the best at audio. My Sony S300 is better at both than my PS3.

I think it has more to do with Sony not ready to pay the royalty fees for DTS-MA.
