You forgot to mention it won't be able to play any PS2 games.

I would send you a link, but since I have not made enough posts it won't let me.

don't think it matters

clearly sony is worried about losing not only the format war, but also the console war.

At $399, the PS3 is now within $50 of Microsoft's entry-level Xbox 360, and $100 of Nintendo's Wii.
Might want to check that math again.

XBOX 360 Core (MS's entry-level system) = $279.99
Nintendo Wii = $249.99

I'm a big PS3/Blu-ray supporter, and I was about to post the same.

How did the Wall Street Journal, of all papers, screw the numbers up that bad? They got them right in the reuters article though.

I agree with everyone's statements but I believe Sony will try to market this as a Blu-ray movie player versus an entertainment/game console system. Granted everyone thinks of the PS3 as a game console but for people like myself that was a good reliable Blu-ray player for a decent price, its in obvious choice. Just my $.02.

removing the backwards compatiblity is a bad move, the best games you can play on ps3 are ps2 games

Their total marketing ideal is pushing blu ray. It is not even about the games or the fact that it plays games. Ps3 should be about the games not the fact that it plays Blu Ray movies. Anyone using the graymatter in their head would come to this conclusion.

It's very tempting, but I still want a player that is specifically just for movies, combo player still in the cards for me.

I don't know why Sony doesn't just sell it without the controllers, and with an infrared remote. $299 would sell a lot of Blu-Ray players.

Default The price of the 80-gigabyte version will be cut to $499 also.

look's like the "The price of the 80-gigabyte version will be cut to $500 from $600". If this is true, I remember many people saying this would never happen

Reuters

http://today.reuters.com/news/articl...AYSTATION3.xml

Are all the millions of PS2 kids have at home stop working next month? PS2 games stop working on there old PS2 when they buy a PS3? or everyone who has an old PS2 will sell it on EbAY over night? You think kid's will give a rats if they have more than one system at home. Don't they have more than 100+ millions PS2 in the world? There are 100+ million plus people who have do not have any of the next gen systems yet, if it was about games we would have 100+ million next gen systems sold, its alway about he price. With the PS3 ( 399 and 499) it makes a better picture to people who do not have WII, Xbox 360 or PS3. We will never find out until 2009 x-mas whats the deal. Many people will have all 3 in the end.
