Default 'Talladega Nights' to be Bundled with PS3

Sony will pack the first 500,000 units of the PlayStation 3 with the Blu-ray version of 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.'

Though 'Talladega Nights' was announced a couple of weeks back for a December 12 release on Blu-ray, those fortunate enough to get their hands on a PS3 in November will get a copy of the Will Ferrell blockbuster almost a month early.

I'm going to take a guess that the PS3 version will be the theatrical version, whereas the one releasing in December will be the unrated edition. What do you think?

That never occured to me, but with Sony and their double dipping ways anything is possible.

It shows our desperate Sony is at this point. They have never included a game or movie with a system other than Demo discs until now. They obviously know Blu-Ray is in trouble and are using this to try and fix things.

This didn't surprise me in the least given what they did for the PSP. They released the PSP with Spider-Man 2 on UMD so I figured they would do something like that with the PS3.

This doesn't suprise me either, as it has long been seen by Nintendo, Xbox, or Sony to bundle a system with a free game or something free, so what better way to market the fact it plays High Def movies by including a free movie? I don't think it shows desperation, just good marketing.

Here is some more details...

I'm also hearing it will be yet another BD-50. November ought to be sweet.

I disagree. I think it's a great idea. People on other forums have been arguing for months whether console buyers will buy Blu-ray movies or not. Well, what better advertising than a free movie?

I'm with Grubert on this one, I think it's a great promotion to show off what the video side of it can do. Let's just hope the transfer is a good one!

I was surprised to have an automated message from GameStop on my machine
about this when I got home from work today.

The message let me know:
1. The movie will be packaged with my PS3
2. That Sony has announced 22 launch titles
3. That the PS3 ships with a browser

I already knew all that stuff, but I did not think GameStop would call me and tell
me about that stuff. Thanks...I guess.

I doubt that. If there is no separte rated edition I don't think Sony would make one just for Playstation 3 owners.

It's like if there going to bundle the system with a movie why couldn't it be black hawk down or some action flick. Who cares about this movie on HD I sure dont. I"ll probably watch it but why not bundle it with something that will show us the power of the ps3!! Something I just found out on sony's website. THEY ARE NOT BUNDLEING THE HDMI CABLE WITH IT!! How cheap is that? Now I'm going to have to purchase an HDMI or Component cable for it.

Tell me about it, not bundling a HD cable is pretty poor imo. If MS can bundle a component with its Premium 360, why can't Sony do the same?

I just dread to imagine how many users out there will be hooking up their PS3's via composite!

You know you can get HDMI Cables on ebay for as little as 2 bucks. Also, if you use component cables with your PS2. Just use that same cable with the Playstation 3. Because both of the Playstation 2 and Playstation 3 have the same multi AV out.

See I'm not sure how I feel about the HDMI cable. On one hand Sony has to release the system so that people with a 480i TV can hook up the system. People that own a 480i TV are just as likely to buy the $599.99 version as they are the $499.99 version. The only differences between the two versions are the larger HDD, wifi and memory card ports. Because of this, Sony pretty much had no choice but to include the bare min cables so that both versions could be connected to the worst TVs out there.

On the other hand, it sucks that they didn't throw in an extra HDMI cable or at least have a component cable thrown in. Most people that know about HD know that HDMI is very important and will likely go out and buy the cable now. I myself have an extra one here because I knew the PS3 wouldn't ship with an HDMI cable for months now. The reason is the above explanation.

Default I e-mailed sony today to ask if they will be including those.

Once I get a reply from sony I will let you guy's know. It's like if there not going to have a hdmi or component what is the sense of having a blu ray player in it. WTF? I might have to keep my component cables from the ps2 that I have and hook it up to those instead and just buy the reg cables when I trade the ps2 in. Hopefully the hook up in the back of the ps3 is the same as the ps2. At least I'll be able to watch the blu ray disks in hd then I'll just keep my HD DVD on the hdmi either way there both going to look great!!
Talk to you soon.
Michelle.

Don't bother contacting Sony. My reps have assured me, the system will not come with HDMI cables. Now to answer your second part, yes, you can use your PS2 component cables for the time being because the output is identical.
