Default The MSRP of the PS3 will drop $100 starting on July 12th at all retailers!

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=505548

It looks like Circuit City is running a promotion with Sony on July 15-21 and the PS3 will be priced at $499 and will also be eligible for 5 free movies.

In addition the BDP300 will also come with 2 free movies on top of the 5 free movies for $499. If you buy a Sony HDTV the BDP300 will also be $100 off ($399 plus the 7 free movies).

I think the PS3 price drop is a sign of things to come and could really help generate some much needed PS3 sales for Sony. It looks like Sony is getting aggressive with both the PS3 and their standalone player.

What say you about this promotion and the impact to the format war??

Default I don't think Sony will hit the 5% profit margin target

Once I learned about the whole BDJ 1.1 thingy I decided to wait. This is to clear the decks to make room for compliant decks.

BDP400?

I have an HD-A20 and a PS3 but leaned red because the extras did count. Bye Bye HD, you gave it your best, that's all we could ask. Sony, finish your damn product already!

The Numbers: 900+ DVDs (rapidly declining), 34 HD-DVDs (+1 on order, + 5 free), 17 BDs (+2 on order). Last movie: Close Encounters.

I doubt we will see the BD-J compliant Sony player until late September/October. I think they are trying to close the gap (along with Panasonic and Samsung) on the HD DVD player standalone sales gap.

Wow, that's a pretty nice deal. I think a lot of people who bought recently will be returning their consoles just to get this deal. Although it would be a major hassle. I can see returns being high under the circumstances.

It doesn't really make any sense that circuit city would drop $100 off the ps3. Unless Sony announces a price drop at next week's E3 and all stores are going to drop to $100 off.

I will buy a PS3 at this price.

Default $100 PS3 Price Cut Rumored for July 15 (Circuit City)

Kotaku just posted a possible $100 price cut for the PS3 starting July 15th. Their flyer has the PS3 on sale for $499.

My bet is that $499 is gonna be the new retail price very shortly.

Many are speculating a price cut at E3. Maybe this is a sign (assuming the poster actually has the Circuit City flier and his post accurately reflects the actual CC offer - he has been a member of that site since 2000 and appears to have posted more than often).

If CC is able to sell the PS3 for $100 off, so will other retailers. If true, this would be more really good news for blu-ray ($100 off with 5 free movies is a lot of savings (though $50 more off or something like an additional free wireless controller would really push up demand)).

If this $499 price is going to be the new retail price (as has been rumored and is likely) then it really belongs here. Blu-ray bargains is only relevant if it's a temporary sale.

I just don't think 499 will cause a big increase in sales?

Fire sale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding.

Great price, no doubt that's at least the drop we'll see by Christmas if not $200, just to fuck everyone up.

$399 PS3? I think there'd be a lot of happy parents able to fill requests then.

It specifically says "$100 price break" in the flyer. That's some typo.
