How about $100 price cut, 5 free Blu-Rays and Killzone as a pack in? That should finally get some sold!

How much does the 360 elite cost? Just curious cuz I'm up in Canada and a $100 price drop would make a huge difference.

Add on to that that if that's the permanent price and they do a sale for another hundred off come the holidays or boxing week 360's lead could be in trouble.

If that's the new price, HD is closer than ever to being dead.

5 free movies + the best blu-ray player for $499. Really can't pass that up. Just hope it's not only circuit city. Not looking forward to trying to wait in line or any of that crap.

For the same reason HD DVD fanboys keep on posting threads about HD DVD player prices dropping.

It looks like Circuit City is running a promotion with Sony on July 15-21 and the PS3 will be priced at $499 and will also be eligible for 5 free movies.

In addition the BDP300 will also come with 2 free movies on top of the 5 free movies for $499. If you buy a Sony HDTV the BDP300 will also be $100 off ($399 plus the 7 free movies).

I think the PS3 price drop is a sign of things to come and could really help generate some much needed PS3 sales for Sony. It looks like Sony is getting aggressive with both the PS3 and their standalone player.

What say you about this promotion and the impact to the format war??
Cue HD DVD fanboy:

Blu-ray is losing teh format war! These desperate measures selling the PS3 at just $499 are a last ditch act to try to save the format!

Cue me:

Oh wat... that was HD DVD half a year ago

This is a great deal. Sony is going to play hardball. HD DVD's price advantage is just going to keep on erroding. Toshiba will be forced to try to sell players at $199 or even lower this Christmas to try to stay in the format war.

That really makes no sense at all. HD DVD players are pertinent to the HD DVD/BR Smackdown.

The PS3 hardware has it's own sub forum.

I updated the thread title due to this new info from Joystiq.com:
