Um, what else do I want from FOX? Oh ya, Date Movie: Unrated Edition, Borat, and The Sound Of Music with TrueHD. (I hate that movie, but my folks have been wanting it pretty bad, how sad)

Is anyone worried that this won't work properly on current players? I feel like this is gonna cause an unnecessary headache for early adopters. BD Java titles have problems already and that tech was ready before these players out. Now a brand new tech, which "protects" studios is probably just going to cause problems on current machines. Plus, like all DRM, it is going to be cracked within a year and it won't make a difference to pirates. I feel like when you spend $600+ on hardware and $20-$27 average for the movies, we shouldn't have to worry about it working properly.

Yep, that was my first thought. I can't believe Sony would be stupid enough to not have BD+ covered on the PS3 - although probably will require another FW update. But I'll bet this will give a lot of headaches to owners of the Samsung & Phillips 1st gen players.

And did anyone follow the link in the news story to the bdplusllc.com web site? I was curious who's behind BD+, LLC. Not a lot there. The three links they provide for "List of Test Tools", "List of Adopters" and "FAQ" all lead you to the same "Under Construction" page.

I'd be surprised if existing players supported a spec which was just now finalized. I guess everyone will need an update disk, and I'll bet you that the crackers will happily break it before all the players are updated. Comparing the next update with the last one should given them a good start.

Whohoo another anti consumer constraint being put into place. I understand these studios need to protect their content but when will they give some consideration that the consumer needs to protect their investment. I hope this DRM scheme gets broken the same way AACS got broken. Maybe then these studios will get a clue.

As for having some sort of answer to the whole DRM mess I think the studios should bite the bullet and just drop DRM. Unfortunately there will always be people who pirate and there is no getting around it. But for once the consumer will finally and easily be able to do what they want with the media they bought. Whether the video gets ripped so it can be streamed to other TV's in the house or shrunk to fit on hand held devices such as cell phones and the PSP.

Do you also hope to never see Aliens or Star Wars or older James Bond movies in HD? --Because that's what will probably happen if DRM is bypassed again. I don't love DRM much either, but we have to at least get to the point of a clear format-leader, and the resulting groundswell of mass public adoption before BD+ is cracked. There has to be a Blu-Ray player in enough homes that studios like Fox cannot refuse to release a title, because the feedback would be so huge.

If I recall, DVD wasn't cracked until about 3yrs in. AACS was defeated in about 8 months. We have to hope that BD+ makes it at least until 2009, or we are probably going to be buying timed digital downloads in the future (which would completely suck).
