What I meant to say, was that I really, really, really enjoyed the movie. If I were to rate it on "fun factor" alone, it would be a 4/5 for me (it just started to drag just a tad). However, taking all things into account....if I were a serious critic, who had to recommend this movie to the masses, I really couldn't go above a 3/5. There are too many flaws with the film (i.e. length, some sub-par acting, weak story) to seriously recommend it to everybody.

WTF? In the "The Movie itself" we learn nothing about the movie except that it's bad. That could've been said in a single sentence and not stretched out over the entire section. Granted, most of us know the movie but still, isn't the reviewer at some point supposed to be talking about the movie?

I was a big Godzilla fan as a kid and saw this movie on opening day in the theater.. Was very disappointed. This movie had no heart and soul and did not capture the true spirit of Godzilla.
I watched it again on DVD a few years later and was just as disappointed.
I don't see myself renting or buying the Blu-Ray.. -

Ahh. I see you are referring to Godzilla 1985. I LOVED it as a kid, however as soon as I saw the unedited original Japanese cut, which is longer and has no Raymond Burr, I could never sit through 85 ever again.
The Japanese version was far more grim and paints both the Americans and Soviets as bullies. The American version altered it so much, removing the American missle satellite, and altering the scene where the Soviet missile launches to make it look like the Russians caused the launch instead of trying to stop it (it was an accident in the original cut.)
What is ironic is that the Russian dialogue was never altered, just the subtitles. So anyone who speaks Russian would have a good chuckle at that scene.
Proud to be purple.

I'll have to buck the trend here but I've always enjoyed Emmerich's take on Godzilla. It's like The Towering Inferno with better SFX. And from my POV, the effects hold up surprisingly well even to this day.
I tried to watch the DVD a few months back and my eyes were bleeding from the compression artifacts. It still had a rockin DD 5.1 audio though.
Once this hits the $10 or less pile I'm down for picking this up.
Now alls we need is Moon 44 and my blu ray collection shall be complete.I don't care what the white mon say, Santa Clause was a black mon.

Sorry to say but this godzilla never breathed fire. He had a power breath, yeah, but it was just air. and in every scene he uses it you can see a reason for the fire ball (exploding cars. cars on fire, etc).
And "easily killed"? Seriously? He dodges numerous missiles (his ducking that resulted in the Flatiron building getting it was a badass shot) through-out the film. He outruns helicopters and torpedoes, shrugs off MG fire, and when they do finally get some good hits in on him, its after he's trapped, exhausted, and it still takes TWELVE direct missile hits to kill him. And even then he doesn't go down right away and it takes several minutes for him to die.
Yeah, I always loved this movie. Saw it opening day. Bought the VHS on the day of release, the widescreen VHS when I found it, the DVD on its release day and now the Blu-ray. Even got the book and soundtrack (never found the score though).
My only regret is we never got to see where this franchise could have gone. a movie version of the Monster Wars Trilogy from the series would have been sweet. -

He MOST certainly had breath that turned to fire. If you have the Blu-ray version, you can see his teeth catching fire first. The breath ignites when in contact with regular air...but it definitely ignites on its own, not because of exploding cars, etc etc
Even in this youtube clip, you can see all his teeth are CLEARLY on fire @ 1:17:

US godzilla did not breathe fire. There was an article a long time ago from the writers who said they put that scene in as a homage to the original, but the fire was from the exploding car. Also, most people think the japanese godzilla breathes fire, which he has never done. He breathes radiation, not fire.
