Default The reason Weinstein is okay releasing "Hard Boiled" on Blu-ray game.

I recieved word this morning from Weinstein and Genius that they are not supporting Blu-ray in the sense that they are releasing high defition content on the format.

Hard Boiled is "not a Blu-ray title, it’s actually standard definition (480) on a PS3 Blu-ray game." Hard Boiled will not be in high definition, and be the same quality of the DVD, and can't upconvert at the moment due to the fact it's on Blu-ray.

I thought I would share, not that I was interested in this title, but it's a shame it's in SD.

That really would be a let down if I planned on buying this.

I thought 50GB was the perfect number?!!??!

Who knows, it might change now that I got this out, I'm sure with hundreds of complaints they could make the effort to release it in high def rather than standard def?

Joystiq had said they made a deal.

Midway had to work out a special deal with the Weinstein's Dragon Dynasty imprint, which owns the rights to John Woo's Chinese-language films. They'll be releasing a new special edition of Hard Boiled sometime later this year under that banner, so this may be the only way you can see the movie in HD for some time.

Midway had to work out a special deal with the Weinstein's Dragon Dynasty imprint, for the actual movie. Not necessarily high defintion just because it's on Blu-ray.

The big news out of the event is that due to the extra space that Blu-ray affords, the Collector's Edition of Stranglehold on the PS3 will include Hard Boiled on the disc in full HD. Yes, you read that correctly - John Woo's classic action film starring the one and only Chow Yun Fat will be right there on the disc. We asked a Midway rep about sampling specifics, and while final compression and bit rate stats aren't available on the movie, we do know that it is being re-mastered in high-definition for the transfer.

taking full advantage of the PS3's Blu-ray capabilities, integrated exclusively into the PS3 release will also be a full resolution, 1080p high-definition version of Woo's 1992 action classic 'Hard Boiled.'

So if Disney decides to release Pirates on HD DVD in 480p, then we could still technically say they aren't supporting HD DVD?

That makes no sense. It's on a BD which means they're releasing a movie on BD. Sure there's only one way to get it which is to buy the video game, but it's still on a BD whether it's hi-def or not. If they were claiming that it's technically not a BD release, then why aren't they packaging a DVD release of it in a special edition for the Xbox 360 or package a DVD of it with the PS3 release?

FUD? Im format neutral so I could care less, how is this smackdown if it's not empowering the other format. I didnt make this up, Steve Wegner might be confused, but I verified what he said several times to make sure we were on the same page. Blockbuster says hi? I dont rent movies.
