Seeing as you are an "HDD Contributor," Landy, I'm also expecting you to announce that "Paris, Texas" will be released in January by Criterion, as well.

Awesome, although I'm glad I grabbed the UK imports as they ended up being a good half year earlier. I'll prolly hang on to them.

I'm pretty sorry I picked up the UK import. I've only tried to watch Part I so far and I thought it was one huge snooze fest, kept thinking "is there any point to this?"

Gotta get around to trying Part II one of these days . . . .

For some reason, even though like the movie SHOULD be boring, I was totally entertained all the way through both parts.

I've quit paying full price for movies, but this will be a $26 purchase for me!

I watched Part 1 a while ago, I loved it. I'm so happy that it's being released with both parts. I'll definitely be picking this one up when it's released.

So much to like, yet so much to be frustrated by. How does a 4+ hour film study of Che glass over so much that is pertinent to his enduring legacy (good or bad)?

Yes, it does gloss over much of the notable historical events and detail...but it still paints a portrait that I found extremely well-detailed regarding the man himself: an icon traditionally defined by those events, but equally, if not more, fascinating when viewed from the periphery of those events. (In this regard, like its subject, it is a very Marxist film: a history focused more on the details and dynamics of more quotidian struggle and transformation than of the "epic events" of traditional historiography.) Like Soderbergh's "Kafka" (which needs a home video release immediately), it is certainly a polarizing affair, but one that I found beautiful and deeply intelligent, particularly against the rote "first he did A, and then B, and who could forget C" standards of the traditional biopic. I'm very excited to see this one again.

Extras wise this looks a lot better than the UK 2 Disc BD. AV wise on paper is the same but I wonder how much better (if at all) in reality, it will be.

As others have said I'm happy with my UK BD though. I picked it up some months ago and using an HMV gift voucher, only paid £8 for it too.

The UK BD even taking into account import costs, could still be cheaper too. It's Region B encoded btw.

Criterion:

2 Disc Set
I imagine the Criterion will be Region A
Spanish DTS-HD MA 5.1
English subtitles

* Audio commentaries on both films featuring: Jon Lee Anderson (Author of Che Guerva: A Revolutionary Life)
* Making “Che,” a new documentary about the film's production, featuring interviews with Soderbergh, producer Laura Bickford, actor-producer Benicio del Toro, writers Peter Buchman and Ben van der Veen
* New interviews with Cuban historians as well as participants in the 1958 Cuban Revolution and Che's 1967 Bolivian campaign
* Deleted scenes
* Trailers
* A booklet featuring an essay by critic Amy Taubin

The UK Optimum BD has:

Sold as a 2 Disc Set or 1 Disc separate releases
Region B
Spanish DTS-HD MA 5.1
English subtitles

* Exclusive Interview with Steven Soderbergh
* Exclusive Interview with Benico Del Toro
* Interview with Jon Lee Anderson (Author of Che Guerva: A Revolutionary Life)
* Interview with Alberto Iglesias (Composer)
* Behind the Scenes Featurette
* Trailers

Commentaries aside, they stack up well against each other. Especially given the higher Criterion price-point.

Was assuming normal Criterion price, didn't take into consideration it is a two-part movie!
