Default 'Monster' - High-Def Digest Review

Nate has reviewed the feel good computer animated hit 'Monster.' Oh wait, no, this is the feel bad female serial killer drama 'Monster.' This film has little replay value. The Blu-ray sports less that magical video and audio, and the extras are waaaaaay old. This is for fans only!

I'm confused a bit about the sound. Does the Dolby Stereo track serve as the backup track for the TrueHD track, or does it have a proper DD 5.1 backup track? I know like 99% of TrueHDs have a DD 5.1 backup, though it is never listed separately, and a few have messed this up. Can I, a person with support for only standard DD/DTS use a 5.1 track here?

I think I'll buy it when Amazon decides to drop the price to $10. I don't have the DVD, and as long as it's superior I don't have much of a reason not buy it for such a low price. I saw this movie once on cable at a friends house years ago and it was pretty good. Gotta give props to Charlize for really playing this part, I didn't even know it was the same chick at first.

a good movie but not great, agree that it feels barely above the direct to dvds and for the reason why, theron really is extraordinary in the film, it makes me wonder why she hasnt done shown as much versatility in her other roles vs. just this.

Yep. Its a very good performance wasted on a "meh" film. That happens a lot unfortunately. They could have done so much more with this.

And yeah, what the hell has she done since this? A true one-hit wonder, I guess.

If I understood the review correctly then the audio is completely out of sync. That makes it unwatchable for me.

this reviewer is on crack. This movie is really good and obviously winning an Oscar for best actress means nothing. If you have not seen the movie do not let this guy ruin your opinion of it.

On crack? He praises her performance. This movie is definitely not for everybody. I didn't hate it, but one viewing was enough.

I liked it while i was watching it but won't be seeing it again i think because the actors were so good at porttraying unlikeable people. It was too real.
Role of a lifetime for theron.

She was in North Country where she gave a similarly strong performance. She seems to pick smaller projects (In The Valley of Elah, Sleep Walking, etc; ) over the big ones, but I guess you don't need many Hancocks or Italian Jobs to keep a decent pay check.

bingo. it isn't a bad film, but it has ZE-RO replay value, not despite the performances, but DUE TO the performances. see below.

that's why. TOO REAL. nailed it. lifetime role, agreed. amazing, amazing performance. but her amazing performance is what makes the film, and any less of a job, by any other actress, and this would have been a real pile of shit film.

eh movie reviews are based off opinions. I personally have watced this movie more than once and found it to be really good both times, so obviously some people do find it to have replay value. This site reviewed the movie "Crash" and gave it 1 1/2 stars when it won best picture, so I am kinda skeptical sometimes.

I walked out of the theater feeling deppressed after watching this movie, few movies do that to me, and I wouldn't like to feel like that again.

Despite the performances, what I remember the most is the overall sense of defeat glooming in every situation. Whatever was going to happen, it would never have a positive outcome, someone would always get killed just for being normal, or even nice people, which does upsets me.

So yeah, too REAL is the key word here, uncomfortably, morbidly real to the point it gets deppressing.
